Sand-Box-Thing......Alpine Map - Question?

Hey, this is not a complaint, but more of a question and answer topic!
Have any of the Sand-Box-Thing – players, playing on the Alpine Map – noticed that a large amount of enemy troops are not moving, but staying at the exact spot when the game begins?
Now, once contact is made – they will advance and start fighting, but they don’t seem to be marching around on the map!
I do observe some enemy movement, but usually a smaller force from the main body, but this could be due to the custom OOB that I’m using.
I’m really trying to figure out if the problem is with the coordinates, or if the problem is on my end, considering that I have changed around so many of the csv files.
Now that this map is released, I doubt that I’ll be playing on any of the other ones; this map really brings the civil-war-atmosphere to reality.

Are you playing a SandBox game with objectives? I believe if you have an objective they should move towards it. Just a thought.

JMayer – Negative, Hunt-them-down ( No-Objectives ).
If I were a little bit smarter, I would have been documenting which units were marching, and which units were staying put.
I may have to rearrange my OOB!

I've been playing quite a bit of army vs army, hunt them down on the alpine map and find that the enemy regularly moves division size units to various parts of the map. I've been outflanked numerous times. His reinforcements arrive to shore up a sagging flank or deliver the coup de grace. This size map really allows the AI to show what it's about.
I think the problem must be with your OOB. I find that the enemy is very mobile.

OK, Thanks!
Now that I know that the problem is on my end, I can take the steps to correct the error.
I’m using two divisions for my army, but have given the enemy five divisions to pick from, this way I’ll never know what I’m up against, until after the battle has taken shape.
I’ll redo my OOB and test it again!

OK, I have redone the OOB – and now I’m getting a lot better interaction with the enemy troops marching on the roads.
I reorganized the five divisions into three divisions, so this still leaves the random effect of not knowing which division will have the largest force once contact is made!

If it is Hunt them down NO OBJECTIVES they won't move till they see enemy in sight. They need a point of refferance unless you set sowgb.ini to debug mode and forgot to put it back into regular mode.

I'm not sure if the game is in
debug mode or not, due to playing with the small window open at the top that displays the fps. But I have always played with this window open, and the enemy units were moving around.
I don’t like the
objectives – I strongly prefer to have no knowledge about where the enemy units are marching to, or which point that they are planning on attacking.
This is why I like the
Open Play feature, any part of the map is open to fighting, without the
AI being pulled into a particular spot!

Yes, you're in debug mode.

Me too. Running into the enemy when you really don't want to is one of the more entertaining and fustrating aspects of the game. I have to hope that the troops can hang on until while I try to gather up support. Of course the enemy support pours onto the field while mine always comes as a slow trickle. I wonder if this is how Meade felt on July 2nd?

I have always divided my forces at the start of the game, and try to send them to different parts of the field.
This works great when there are several roads leading in the same direct, so this acts like a wide marching maneuver to guard against the flanks. This is an excellent map for these types of maneuvers, I’ll probably add in a few inter-locking paths to the
Alpine map.
We can-not alter the ground textures, but we can add items to the map to create a sort of marker for where the new roads are located.

These large sized maps, and with the new courier system has really brought this game to a whole new level of playing, my compliments goes out to
Norb & Team .
