Artillery in courier only battles

I have been playing stock Gettysburg OOB 1st day Doubleday's Corp, Corp vs Corp on the Kansas battlefield and when I detach and take command of an artillery battery they won't follow the courier's orders I give them, but when I get in the battery commanders face and threaten to bust him down to camp cook, he does what he is supposed to. Is this by design or a bug?

If you TC'd the battery, then it will ignore courier orders. You have to command it directly with the mouse.

That is what I have been doing, mouse clicking on the battery commander and then clicking where I want the battery and what formation. What I am saying is when I do that from lets say 200 yards away I am ignored but when I get 20 yards from the commander and do the same thing he follows orders. Capice?

I've never had a TC'd unit ignore me, no matter how far away I am from it. Perhaps it wasn't really TC'd. I've done that more than once.

Col. Mayer(Sp?) of MP lore figured it out...have the batteries Hold Fire, then they will respond to movement orders.
BTW, why did someone zap my Karma? Thought I was being nice and helpful to folks lately

...formerly somewhat impatient, argumentative and opinionated. :woohoo:

Ah! So he wasn't TC'ing them. Yes, they behave just like infantry. If they are engaged with the enemy, they will ignore your orders until they feel safe to do so.

Ok boys at the risk being rude and junking my karma I'm gonna tell you one more time and you better read it the way I wrote it and pay attention: Yes I have taken command; Yes I have detached the battery; Yes I have ordered them to hold fire (they followed that order from a 200 yard distance) BUT NO! They ignore my orders to move when I click on the battery commander and my own courier message that is addressed to the battery commander pops up on my screen. They only move the battery when I get 20 yards away from them. Do you guys get the picture now? I am doing everything right, correct? Do you understand? I have to get within shouting distance to get them to obey my orders.

"Yes I have taken command"
This is your mistake...just Hold Fire, then give your orders...DO NOT TC

You know, this is really getting old. I am really starting to get irritated at all the replies because none of you are listening. I'll tell you what, read the rest of this post and then don't reply for five minutes, just think about what I wrote first OK? The reason to take command is to overide the AI. The AI won't usually order batteries to under 200 yards of the enemy which is what I am ordering them to do. So not taking command doesn't suit my tactics OK? The point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here is the point gents. Do I have your undivided attention, I mean are you fully conscious now, not just on autopilot cause you THINK you already know the answer to the problem? OK here it is, read it carefully: The battery executes my orders when I have taken command and detached them only if I am within shouting distance. Do you get it now? If I move Doubleday 100 yards away they ignore the command, if I move him within 20 yards they obey. Now my original question: Is this by design or is it a bug?
