"Artillery to the Front!:

Post by Kerflumoxed »

I am sure there is a thread somewhere that has addressed the issue of artillery racing down the road only to run into the advancing enemy with friendly artillery doing an abrupt about-face and skedadling back to the rear, forever cowering under the shade-trees!

Will the issue of artillery advancing in "front" of the army be addressed in the first patch? Why would any CO "probe" with artillery to the front

Also, my infantry advancing on the road continues to do the "Snake Dance!" Will that also be addressd?

Other then these (and no "Orders Destination" after orders are received), I am about as happy as an old sow (pun intended) in a cold-water wallow on a hot summer day!

I have a report about this in our bug tracking system. It was too much coding involved for the first release (and probably even first patch) but hopefully for the second one.

Will add this to the notes of my request.

Yes this will be addressed. Can't say when, but it's on the list. :)

Not sure about this one. Can you explain in more detail?

I think you posted this in the wrong place.

I read in another thread that the armor column attack is being addressed. In the mean time for sandbox play, I've modified an OOB, getting rid of the artillery battalions and distributing the batteries among the infantry divisions. That's the easy fix to the problem. My guess is that a fair amount of code will have to be written to make the artillery battalions functional. Right now, when they encounter the enemy, they try to fight like infantry; retreating a few yards and then trying to unlimber. This aside, having the battalion commander make intelligent decisions as to where to place the various batteries, (some behind the line, some at the front), will take a bit of work.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

Okay...will give it a try!

SOW = Female Hog (or, if you prefer, Scourge of War)
Wallow = Hog Waller or muddy hole in the ground that allows the old SOW (hog variety) to cool off in the hot summer. The old farmer will let a garden hose trickle cold water into the hole to keep the level of water up and the temperate down! Hence, a cold-water wallow. Kind of like you jumping into the pool, without the mud, of course. The "mud" acts as an insulation to keep the body temp low and also serves as "nature's own sun-screen" so the old SOW won't burn! Will work for humans, also...if you have a mind to! Now, any old CW "sojer-boy" from the farm would know that! You must be one of the city band-box sojers!

PS: Thanks for keeping these issues on the back-burner (understand that one...or do you need a lesson on wood and/or cob stoves?

I am sure I did post this in "wrong" thread as I seem to recall we asked the same question a month or so ago...but, not finding it, thought I would be like the old drunk, and bring it up again! Hope I didn't offend anyone by doing this!

Do think you are right, as Little Powell noted. I did find a scenario, maybe it is yours, where the artillery was attached to a brigade with an overall Division commander who has one infantry brigade and an arty battery.

Thanks

No, I meant that you posted it in the wrong section, "Other Games" rather than "Discussion." I never put my OOB online, must be someone else. As for being happy, where I grew up, we were always happier than pigs in sh** :P

haha very funny... So do you mean no orders destination on the map when you get orders? I had that confused with the floating gold shield orders destination.

If so, yes that would be a bug. And if you can get a save of it, please send to matt @ norbsoftdev dot com and I'll take a look.
