Buildings Missing?

[Trilogy]

In the Corps-level tutorial, the town of Gettysburg is completely devoid of buildings. It's just roads and white fences around empty lots.

I searched and found that someone had lost their buildings until they turned graphics to "Best." I assume that's the uniform quality setting, and mine is already at Best.

My specs:
Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop
Intel Core2 Duo 2.54GHz
Vista Home 32-bit
4GB RAM
Mobility Radeon HD 4330 256MB

Performance is otherwise very good.

I'm playing with the new beta (although I don't know if the problem existed before it).

The setting is "Show Map Objects" and this is what it does:

Best: Buildings & Fences visible
High: Fences visible
Medium: Buildings visible
Low: Neither are visible
