Commander Bonus and Fence defensive bonus

Just a few things I’ve noticed from playing the 1st Day scenarios.

It’s very hard to get a commander bonus at times. His radius of influence seems very small and you have to keep moving him or the unit around to get it. I really had difficulty getting it in the scenario playing as the Iron Brigade.

In the first scenario with Buford’s cavalry I dismounted the men but couldn’t get a defensive bonus behind any of the fences around McPhersons farm. Even though I was on top of the fences it just showed open and I really wanted my poor boys to get some cover.

Apart from that I’m really enjoying the scenarios a lot.

I'm not exactly sure what rules dictate it (Norb or Jim would be better to explain), but not all commanders can give commander bonus's.

It can be tricky to get defensive bonus's on fences. The radius has been increased in several areas, but there are still some spots where it can be tough. The best you can do is get right on top of it, sometimes even in front of it.

And the very best thing you can do is to issue 7 and 8 move orders so that the troops move right to the cover area by their own. They see exactly where it is much much better than the player does.

It is indeed a pretty tough scenario but just lovely designed.

Little Powel I can get a Commander bonus with Solomon Meredith and the Iron Brigade but it’s just very tricky in the heat of battle when under fire when You don’t have time to make a lot of precise adjustments. With the Commander and regimnet flags right on top of each other its easy to click on the regiment one by mistake and the unit moves when its under fire

Thanks GShock I will give the 7 and 8 orders a try. The scenarios are fantastic and very enjoyable.

The radius in which a commander gives a morale bonus is determined by the ratings of that specific CO in the OOB file. These ratings were set using detailed historical research by Brett & Larry.

Yeah, did some testing on the command radius, and in some cases the commander has to ride piggy-back on his units to affect a bonus. I'll get this in Mantis. Does a minimum of 10 yards radius for green commanders sound acceptable?

Regarding defensive bonus, it's been addressed and is improved and widened on all the fences and walls I've tested...still a million miles of fence line still to go and test though. :S

That would be fine RebBugler .

Looking at an on screen fence profile, would it be fair to say that the new improvement goes equally on both sides of the fence?
