COMMAND ISLAND AND ROCK

Personally I'd like to see the
Command Island and
Command rock flattened out on the bottom of the screen (no gaps). The
unit ID flag put upper top left corner of screen, it appears to get in the way, for it does not have that much important information to be in such a hot spot of screen action.
Having gaps in between these features is wasted space to me, the screen would then look cleaner if they were eliminated IMO.

I agree, I was surprised at the bulkiness of the flag/portrait panels. The portrait can come up in the OOB screen.

Aww I love having those portraits on the toolbar. It's a quick reference to who you are commanding and gives it a more RPG feel.. I like to look down and glance at who I'm about to send in to battle to die in honor for the cause...

I like the portraits also. Gives it a real world touch while I'm playing.

Using dds files limits the proportions we can use and we experimented with a number of layouts. Overall we found this the best in our opinion. When the sdk is out it will be possible to mod this of course

I know that most of us "vets" already know this, but some of the newcomers may have missed the "U" key which will hide the menu items on the bottom of the screen.

I too would not mind seeing the commander panel reduced in size. It does get in the way at times. I don't like to get rid of the command buttons. Whenever I do, I find myself in a situation where I need to react quickly and have to stop and think just where did those buttons go...

Ahh, and that is Norb's orientation, as I recall. It's a very, very, very small issue in relation to my collossal appreciation of the game.
Also, with "U", one loses a lot of control.

If anything I would be for more on screen info/not less, take for instance a unit's supply stats, who presently engaged with/or not, especially what amounts of ammo (cannister, ect.) that an artillery unit has without tooltipping. Certainly the gaps between islands could accommodate a mini-mini map (ex. green field with red and blue dots without IDs, perhaps VPs, ect.). Just exploring ideas as to how the screen could be improved. Enjoy seeing members comments and thoughts as to how they view the subject. It's beta time for this game, if there are any good suggestions to be made, I would think this would be the best opportunity to do it.

I like the look and the feel of the TC2M toolbar island, but with photo
