I briefly tested this with a brigade in the 1st tutorial and in sandbox.
When a brigade is in column of regiments and you give the brigade an advance to closest cover command using the "8" key all the regiments advance to the same cover point and then all the regiments occupy the same space. They just keep piling up on top of each other. After all the regiments have advanced to the cover it looks like there's just one regiment there. Seems like after the 1st regiment reaches the cover the other regiments behind it should halt and maintain their intervals.

I see this as a SOWGB Manual explanation, not a bug. This command is not meant to be a brigade column, closed rows type movement. If the troops start close together, they will remain close together, and bunched up.

This command is meant for a single brigade line battle formation with troops spaced appropriately, and when they reach their cover, they will remain properly spaced. I'm sure Larry will address this if necessary, and, if I'm making the correct observation.
