Sprites

Post by 37th_Tennessee »

From the screen shots it seems that we're not going to be disappointed when it comes to the amount of sprites on the field. I was just curious as to what the ratio of the sprites are....1 sprite = how many men?

1 Sprite = 3 men

The sprite ratio looks great in this game. Compared to TC2M, large regiments look like brigades did in TC2M.. Divisions look Corps did in TC2M.. And Corps.. Well, lets just say it's a HUGE mass of troops.

Really? I expected it to be 1:10 at the most, this thing is going to be massive!

Heck yeah, Corps battles on this game are indeed massive. If you are brave enough to go to Army level, it's an ocean of troops. :)

The ratio is actually 1 sprite per 4 historical soldiers. This can be changed as a mod, but 1:4 is the best balance between looks and performance on current platforms.

Release date is not solid but Q1 2010 is looking good at this point.

Sounds great....got another questions about the sprits....in TC2M, when the units were falling back, the soldiers "moon walked." as they were falling back. The animation was the soldiers stepping forward while backing up. Has this been an issue wit GB, and if so has it been resolved? .....it wasn't really a big issue, but it did look kinda funny. :D

I love detail in the new sprites. However I just wondered guys are there any plans to put in maybe some civilian sprites or maybe farm animals? Certainly in Gettysburg Civilians were caught up in the fighting - some even took up arms and fought with the union forces.
I only know two tunes...One's "Yankee Doodle" and the other one isn't!

When the farm animals start being included I think one of the first should be the herd of cows near Devil's Den that Henry Hunt had to work his way through after he checked on the placement of Smith's battery.

There is really no limit to what we could do in the way of barnyard animals......and we did actually talk about it. The limit would be in finding a machine that could handle them all without melting. B)
