Yes that's almost certain. I wanted to make create the maximum chance that he would be lost, so sat him in the middle of the road as the enemy column approached!

Is that what is supposed to happen when you touch an enemy unit? I'm sure that I've ridden through enemy units before a number of times without harm.

Can email you larger versions of any of the pics if that would help.

The way it generally seems to work (90 percent of the time) is that a friendly officer will be killed if he comes in physical with an enemy regiment.

I should just say that I'm certain I didn't touch an enemy unit in last night's game. I was on the road with Union artillery limbered off to the left and infantry in line to the right, but neither were on the road, and all were stationary. I tried to keep going up the road and was passing between the two when I got hit (or whatever).

Been thinking about why I was resurected as a captain last night, but not today. It may be that it was because of the game situation. I was about +700 VPs last night and held both major & minor objectives when I was put hors-de-combat. I don't recall seeing the Harper's weekly screen (not 100% certain though), so it could be that the scenario still had some way to run before victory was declared. Is that what happens when the commander's death isn't enough to decide things?

Think I've figure-out what happened....and I brought it on myself.

I've been playing around with the OOBs lately. I thought it would be more historical if more senior officers had larger staffs. It would also occasionally be more helpful in the heat of battle. By specifying 15, 12 or 8 men in the headcount column, instead of 1, you can create a staff group of 5 for an army commander, 4 for corps and 3 for division, instead of the standard 2. Once nice thing about this is that all the extra guys are officers.

Anyway I was using this in yesterday's game, playing as a corps commander, and therefore had my usual two, plus a couple of extra officers. These ride out on either flank, actually a little further out than I would like. I'm now pretty sure that what must of happened is that one of these guys touched an enemy unit, although I was looking ahead and didn't see it.

Tested that out and did get my commander killed. Took me about 5 minutes to achieve it though, so 90% looks like it's overstating it on the risk.

Anyway many thanks for your patience, WriterJWA, and sorry I wasted your time.

Martin

MJ,

You didn't waste anyones time - this is how we figure out the little weird things that happen during a game. Also, great idea about the bigger staff for the generals. Love it!

Thanks Jack. I'll celebrate by promoting myself. You don't think a staff of 60 is excessive, do you? There's all that braid to polish after all :woohoo:

With adjutant generals, assistant adjutant generals, aides, couriers, and other staff officers common to division, corps and army headquarters, I'd say you might be on to something!
