Old_Message_Mod

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

I don't have a three in the message that I use to test, so it might be fixed, might not!

Other letters that were slightly changed, f , s , S , I , b.

New Name[/b] - LDScript1.pft
Took a break this weekend. Here is a screenshot with the font changes. The dreaded "3" is fixed! Notice the white around the letter. That is from me grabbing a non-rectangular image. How do I fix that? I used Paint.net (recommended by RebBugler) because it's much easier to use than Photoshop and it's free.

The Scroll Bars and Close Box are next. Don't anticipate a problem with those.

Coming along nicely. Will the font editing program allow you to correct the capital letters? Looks like most of them need worked on. Also the lower case y and h. Every time you and Davinci post a new pic it gets better looking. I hope NSD takes this approach for the courier message appearance in the new release they're working on.

Davinci deserves all the credit. If you remember those crude first attempts at a folded message to what you see now, the transformation is truly remarkable.

Quick question for you guys:

Does this mod also affect how the letter looks when you are drafting a courier message? I've only seen pictures of received messages so far and was curious.

Keep up the great work!

Davinci can answer that better than I. He's done all the design work. My involvement has been to try and get it to work on my computer. I as I recall, you were one of the folks that had the problem as well. Here is what the Send screen looks like currently for me.

I'm not sure how the Paint.net program works, but you can take another image of the newer letter and crop \ copy \ paste over that one, now that you know the size of the letter you are using.

For a free program this font editor works really good. There is learning curve with it, but I like the way that it works. I'm still trying to figure out if the program will allow for other letters in another font to be transferred over in files, this would be easier than editing the letters.

It will change the way the out going message looks pertaining to the font used.

There are thousands of fonts on the Internet – the only problem is downloading and testing them one by one.

But how do I keep the convex shape of the letter? It doesn't show it here but if you open it in a graphic program like IrfanView you'll see what I mean. If I take the cropped letter and paste it on to a 1024x1024 image it looks like this. That's one of the cool things about the image; its irregular shape.

I'm the last person that you ask about how a program works – I don't have that much knowledge pertaining to this.

Basically – you have the image on one side, and you have an alpha-channel on the other side.

If you open a dds file with Irfanview you will notice that the images are surrounded by black, that is the alpha-channel blocking \ covering up – everything except the image.

For example sake, lets say the the bottom of the letter is 400 pixels wide – you would crop 400 pixels from one letter and paste it onto the other one. This way you are doing it in steps, and aligning the cropped sections to cover up the other sections.

Probably not explained right!

Long Story – Made Short – It works like this:

Start with blank sheet

Crop letter onto blank sheet

Edit letter to size and shape you want

Create a Alpha Channel \ Copy and Paste – Image onto Alpha Channel

Place a white color over image in alpha channel \ other area is black surrounding image.

Switch back over to image \ the letter – add buttons \ test in game.

There is a lot more but that is the general procedure.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. Never used the alpha-channel but had never done any of this other stuff either. I mean, how hard can it be? A few mouse clicks and you're done, right? 300 posts later...
