Jenkins Ferry Final Map for Red River Pack Pics!

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Welcome joepwalker

This is great news, opening up all kinds of possibilities to spotlight 'Civil War Arkansas'. Looking forward to that battleground tour, but need to read your book first. :)

Mr. Walker is a great fellow. I have been engaged in emails with him the past couple of days. I guess I should thank Cleaburn or whoever turned him on to this site. I am in debt to you. I have exchanged different info with him on the battle and his book will definetly shed new light on the battle from previously released works. I will be purchasing it and we should definetly get a review of his work in our review section. Its great that such a great game and site can get the attention of historians, gamers, and advid War Between The States enthusiasts together. Although I am from Texas, I am a fan of troops and battles fought in Arkansas and Louisiana. What would Cleburne's Division be with out Govan's and Granbury's Brigades, what would Hood's Texas Brigade be without the 3rd Arkansas? What would the outcome of Wilson's Creek be without the 3rd Louisiana? Minus a couple of units, the best troops of the war for the South came from these three states. Debate me if you like....

Hi 2nd Texas,
First id like to say ive been following your work from the beginning and am most impressed with what youve shown us and am eager to take a look closer when you allow us to.Its fantastic to have these lesser known campaigns created by you talented folks that spend your time doing what you do, and many thanks for everything your doing and intend to do in the near future and beyond.

Those are also some mighty "fine fighting" troops your talking about there and they indeed distinguished themselves in many instances on the field of battle.I think their fame is still known to most who are interested and many who arnt.I really think the Generals you mentioned above and the troops they commanded would also be the first to state that they were merely just in the company of many other fine fighting units when they achieved the fame they did. When we clearly have so many units to look at its a really fine line we tread when trying to create "hero's" from the group of "hero's".I think all of them thought very highly of each other too, North and South.
Have to agree with what you said myself tho and its great to know your willing to put your time in to researching this in this manner. Thanks for everything and hope its all coming along as planned.

I came accross this while researching Jenkins Ferry...Poignant words written by a brave man.....

A SOLDIER'S FAREWELL TO HIS LOVE

Farewell! I go where duty calls,
and faith and honor point the way
Where many a high-souled hero falls
Upon each bloody battle day.

I go; for I would scorn to be
A laggard in the glorious strife
That shapes our nation's destiny
And wakes us to a nobler life.

I fain would gird my idle sword
That all too long hath lain at rest,
While I upon thy lightest word,
Have hung, 'til now, supremely blest.

O! oft amid the din of fight,
When swift the hurtling bullets fly,
Thy image pure shall glad my sight,
And nerve my arm for purpose high.

Like crested knights of ancient song
Who fought to please their haughty loves,
I'll think of thee and still press on,
Knowing thy soul the deed approves.

For thou art worthier far than they
Thoughtful and modest, fir and true
Like the sweet flower that shuns the day,
But opes to drink the dvening dew.

I covet not the warrior's crown,
Nor other boon or guerdon claim,
But as I float life's stream adown
Dearest to know that love the same

As when beneat the star-lit dome,
I wooed and won thy guileless heart
Such as now bids the tear drops come
To bathe thine eyes e're we part.

O! brighter than Italian skies
And purer than the lily's hue,
Thy beaty shames the dolphin's dyes
And send the life blood coursing through,

My veins, as speeds the lightning flash,
When mountain storms all wildly roar,
And foaming billows leap and dash
And, wearied, break upon the shore.

Time cannot dim such love as ours--
Distance no barrier interpose;
Its light shall guide the fleeting hours,
Unquenched, till life, itself shall close.

Weep not! I soon will come again
To claim and clasp my gentle bride,
I go to prove how madly vain
Th' insulting foeman's boasted pride.

All the mod maps that are being worked on so far are the 2.5 x 2.5 mile size.

All four maps (Pleasant Hill, Mansfield, Yellow Bayou, and Jenkins' Ferry) will all be 2.5 maps. They are all 100% accurate to scale. All four are real close to being finished. Will be out in a month or less.

Probably the week following valentines day. I don't want to be responsible for anyone's divorce!
