Please ask your fellow players, who had the problem, what type of cpu they have.
Have details of three of them, as follows:
* Pentium dual core CPU T4200 2.00 ghz
* AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.8 Ghz
* Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4Ghz
Hope that helps.

I've an Intel and i never met it...
Wwhat's the system restore problem you mentioned MikeCK?
I had seen a thread where someone had mentioned that after a system restore, the courier system broke. Several weeks later I had to do a restore and sure enough...it broke. If I ordered a unit to do something by clicking on the commander....it would, and it would send couriers out to sub units. I just couldn't get anyone to move using the text based courier system. You know, where you pick the language " move to this point, change to this formation. Hold." The courier would go but no one would move. I reinstallend and it worked again.
Thats a weird one, I'll log that too.

I thought it might have something to do with AMD processors. So much for my theory. Does this problem happen at the start of the game or after the scenario has been running for a bit?

From start of game. But your work-around, setting the time seems to clear it for good. At least it has in my case.

Now I'm very, very confused. :blink: There is a ?bug? that popped up in this patch. If you send out an order before you receive the initial order from your superior, it will take 40-50 sec. before your subordinate responds. I had assumed that this reflected the time needed for the subordinate to read your order and dictate his own. It was a very nice feature. However, if you wait until you receive your first order and then send out your own, your subordinates will react immediately. This may be what you see.
This happens with each new game that I start. But you see that if you flip the execution time, the delay goes away forever. :S :S

Im confused too. This is what happens, and for the reason MTG stated. The higher level the general, the longer it takes him to give his orders, because he has more troops, more organisation etc. But I thought the bug that was reported in this thread was that the courier orders were NEVER being carried out.
Am i right in that?

I think there are 2 issues here, and in my experience they are quite separate. I will give you all the information I can on what I have found with both:
1. Speed of response on receipt of courier orders. Although I have found in the past, that there was sometimes a delay in the implementation of orders, I do not find this now. This is regardless of the seniority of the officer concerned. Have just done another test to confirm this, and found that whether I send a courier to a corps, divisional or brigade commander, they respond instantly. In the first 2 cases by sending couriers down the change of commander. In the third case by moving troops. In reality it took ages to get a corps moving or to organise a coordinated attack, with artillery support etc, so I agree a delay for thinking time would be a nice feature. It’s just that I haven’t seen it for a long time, and when I did it was no more than a minute of two, which is a fraction of the time such things really took.
2. Whether courier orders are implemented at all. The following are the experience of 3 players (the first being me):
(a) AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.8 Ghz. Found recipients no longer responded in SP after installing 1.4 patch and Antietam. Following board discussion with con20or and MTG implemented workaround. First time I did it it worked, but that did not carry over to the next time I loaded up the game. Implemented workaround again, and couriers have worked fine ever since.
(b) Pentium dual core CPU T4200 2.00 ghz. Installed 1.4 patch but not Antietam. Tried to play MP with me for about 2 hours using succession of mod & stock scenarios, but could not get recipients to implement courier orders. At first we thought it was some function of playing MP. It eventually occurred to me that he should use the workaround. He did so, and everything was fine thereafter.
(c) Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4Ghz. Installed 1.4 patch and Antietam. Tried to play MP with me a few days after (b), but could not get recipients to implement courier orders. Told him about the workaround, he used it, and all was fine after that.
Hope that all helps.

In the first 2 cases by sending couriers down the change of commander.
Whoops. That should read "In the first 2 cases by sending couriers down the chain of command."

Thanks Martin - very detailed.
Ok, so we are talking about two things. Thats ok, I was geting confused there
There should definitely be a delay after orders. There is on my system. Its anything from a few seconds to a few minutes (couldnt be any more than that or the scenario would end nefore you did anything). The higher the officer, the longer it takes to issue orders.
Only thing i can think of is have you increased the number of AICycles per second? This is a .ini entry that allows the computer think quicker. I'm not sure, but it's not there by default, so if you havent added it, you probably havent changed it. The lower officers think faster because they are doing the fighting.
Just to confirm, when you installed the patch, you had all MODS disabled?
