With my old rig, playing FredericksburgLITE OP medium battles was tolerable with mostly short and some occassional long freezes with all hi-res options including ambient sounds turned off.
Antietam however was a whole different story, playing medium to large battles with my old PC, the freezes and jerky panning was just not tolerable.
Even with my new rig playing a large Antietam battle, while the panning is smooth, i still get a handfull of sub second freezes albeit all hi-res options are enabled and with the drawing distance max'd out. And yes i did thin out the corn stalks.
In fact i played that Antietam battle the other day for the first time on my new rig. Man what an artillery heaven blast that was. Yeah, my artillery won the day!!:)
For some reason (maybe less complicated graphics?) the stock TC2M OP battles or scenarios compared to the mods by far ran the smoothest in my old rig.

Yah, the stock run the smoothest, with Fred the worst and Antietam the second worse! But, it is tolerable.

apologies, that was my first stab at map modding there.
lessons have been learned, graphics are optimized as a result, and superior guidance/support by other team members will make this new batch of maps more playable, i promise.

Louie,
I have a newer system and I have to tell you that I loved both of those maps. I've had no problems with all the settings way up. Just a dream playing both of them. I really like the large engagements.

Louie,
no apologies necessary here! With a higher end machine Antietam plays just fine. Yeah i did get a few sub second freezes playing a large battle with every conceivable bell 'n whistle enabled. OK i was comparing my old rig to the new one. A few very minor sub second glitches during a hot 3 hour large battle is nothing.
The Antietam map is my favorite to play. During that large battle i mentioned earlier, one of my most memorable to date, 'R.E. LEE' managed to rout the entire Yankee Army off the map starting with my artillery with all Divisions pretty much held in reserve or gaurding my batteries against persistent withering enemy attacks. Then i captured isolated batteries with my cavalry, re-enforced with brigades and turned the re-supplied guns around. Once my converging U-shaped canon fire routed most of those huge enemy grand batteries and it took a while, i set ALL 6 of my Divisions in a massive assault against the now mostly enemy infantry. The first battle in the hundreds i've played where entire enemy brigades were either retreating or running off the map just about simultaneously when they saw all those gray lines backed up with canon comin at em. If the map didn't say Antietam, it was just like First Manassas all over again.
Sorry about the brag fest but i'll remember that battle for a long time.

After walking the field this summer with MarkT I've discovered that my Antietam maps could use an overhaul, as there are some elevations at crucial points that definitely aren't accurate...
more to the point, i will reiterate that Norb has been very focused on optimizing the new game and that every effort is being made to let the player control how much or little load the game will have on his/her own system. lots of options to fiddle with!

Having had a fatal system crash and in the process of building a new rig a question has popped into my head. I don't know if this has been addressed, but will the game take advantage of multi-core processors?
