HELP Game will not start?!? Black Screen

yes. still doesn't work.

If you completely uninstalled, (removed game directories etc. except for the Work folder or you'll lose scores/saved games), did a fresh re-install, and it still doesn't work then it must be something on your computer... Hard to tell what could have happened, but if the game worked before and re-installing doesn't fix it, then something had to of changed. Try running a full virus scan. Maybe even perform a System Restore. Roll back to a point before it stopped working.

i uninstalled using the uninstall which came with the game. i'm not sure if that counts as a 'complete uninstall' as you put it. The way you describe it, it sounds a bit more complex. As far as i'm aware, there is no virus protection on this computer, so there's nothing to make an exception to. I'll do the google search and get back to you if there's any result.

Any luck yet? If not I would definitely consider a system restore. Again I think it's something on your system that is causing the issue (the game doesn't just break like that).

What OS are you on? If it's Win7:

System Restore:

Navigate to the Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools program group.

Click on the System Restore program icon.

Click Next > on the Restore system files and settings window.

Choose the restore point that you want to use.

hmmmm. ok. restored to the day it crashed (the only point available to me) and the main difference is that now, rather than a black screen, i can see the runtime error which was previously invisible. I suppose that is some progress

I'll keep playing with it, but any more suggestions would be helpful.

hmmmm. even in safe mode i get the runtime error. wasn't expecting that. i'll try reinstalling now that i've restored the system and we'll see if that helps.
