Runtimer Error and SOW - Problems

Game won't run. Keeps crashing. Hopefully we won't get any posts here, but if we do, we'll try to help you out. You can also post any bugs that you find here. IMPORTANT: Don't post mod related problems here!

Yeah, working in safe mode was probably a long shot. I suggest you try to disable all of Mcafee using msconfig.

Go to Start, Click on Run
Enter msconfig in the box and press OK
Go to the Services tab and uncheck anything having to do with Mcafee.
Do the same in the Startup tab.
Click OK and restart your computer.

Now see if the game will start.

Mcafee is probably the worst choice for AV software that can be made. Norton would be a close second.
+1. If you excluded the NorbSoftDev and still no luck, as a last resort I would:

1. Uninstall Mcafee completely.
2. Uninstall the game completely
3. Reinstall the game and patch to the latest.
4. Try running the game.
5. If that works, then install AVG viruscanner. Free and I've never had a problem with it. There's an option to exclude the NorbSoftDev directory in the options.

Maybe trying to run in windowed mode might give a clue.

I have it that way:
(fullscreen=0).

Tried different online sources, seems that the problem occurs, even with other games, but none of the solutions worked.

I'm outta ideas, that is all the game specific issues/debugging that I can think of. It must be either an OS,driver, or hardware issue.

Well, thanks for your help Norb.

I need a new computer anyway, and perhaps I'll be getting a new one shortly. Then I won't have a problem with the terrain not showing up and I won't have this problem.

I'll continue to hunt around, but I think that this problem has been given its full attention.

i just played the game about 6 hours ago and now it's telling me that it has a runtime error that asked it to terminate. if anyone has an answer to this i'd appreciate it. i have the latest direct x and patch for the game.

On start up or while playing? Do you have antivirus or security software installed?

I think the latest version of AVG won't give the false positive. Try updating to the latest and see what happens. I'm not sure what AVG does to the game files, but it probably permanently alters them, so you may have to re-install the game after you update your AVG. To be safe after you update, you can also make an exception in AVG so it won't scan the game files again after you re-install.

Go to Tools, Advanced Settings, Resident Shield, Directory Excludes, then add the entire C:NorbSoftDev directory to the exclude list.

Yeah, follow LP's instructions.

I have also had problems with AVG, in addition to the 'exceptions instructions', you might have to turn the resident shield off...that's what I resorted to. Maybe recent updates by AVG have fixed the shield issue, but be aware.
