I will take requests. AJ - I'll make sure and grab a shot looking West from where the modern day west end guide station is.

Thanks LP. How about one from Oak Hill at the present Peace Light site looking south towards the McPherson farm?Your wishes for screenshots shall soon be granted.

Good one's AJ. I'm not 100% sure on where Lee watched Pickett's Charge. I've heard conflicting accounts. Most say that he was in the area where the current Virginia monument is, others have said he watched it from the Cupola of the Lutheran Theological Seminary. What's your take on it?Little Powell wrote:Thanks LP. From the position of Brooke's brigade at the west edge of Rose woods looking west towards Warfield ridge.
From the area where Lee watched Pickett's charge looking toward the Union lines.
Just some ideas.
not to mention it's very tedious if you are a lefty; you have to keep blotting and waiting for ink to dry before you can finish a line. since you're pushing the pen, any time the nib catches on the paper, it flicks ink all over the place. Calligraphy is best suited for right-handers IMO.I would invite anyone to try their hand with even a modern fountain-pen for two hours - of calligraphy. Your hand gets very tired and your writing gets very sloppy very fast.
If you need to refill that pen, the work doubles.
Also, writing in italics means that a certain angle must be used by the pen to the paper, so the lines are not thick, and if your writing in bold, it is just about impossible.
I don't recall reading about Lee watching Pickett's charge from the Seminary cupola. Do you remember where you read that? Let's keep the screenshot from the traditionally recognized place at the Virginia monument on Seminary Ridge.Amish John wrote:Good one's AJ. I'm not 100% sure on where Lee watched Pickett's Charge. I can't remember where I read it.. It might have been on a forum or something. I'll go with the Virginia monument location.Little Powell wrote:I don't recall reading about Lee watching Pickett's charge from the Seminary cupola. Do you remember where you read that? To quote Douglas Southall Freeman, Lee's most famous biographer, "At last the survivors reached Alexander's guns and staggered on to the cover of the low ground west of the batteries. And there, they found Lee astride Traveller. From the spot where the Virginia mounument now stands, he had witnessed...as much of the charge as was visible through the smoke and dust."
