Hi Matt/Norb

Some of the guys have suggested you might appreciate a quick update on aspects we'd hope to mod, to help you understand of the areas of key interest. Not sure whether there are existing files or hidden files which allow some of these tweaks already.
  • zero movement rate - as previously described.
  • supply treatment – see more on this below
  • AI courier system for SP
  • corps AI
  • mounted cavalry behaviour
  • dismounted cavalry ability to melee
  • ability to split cavalry from their horses.
We wouldn’t be intending to look at all of these immediately, but would aim to focus on those that assist us with the particular mods we are working on.

A good example is supply. Custer was critically dependent on his large mule train at LBH. It contained all the essentials needed to keep the 7th Cavalry functional, not least a supply of reserve ammo. Numbers quoted vary, but we believe the most reliable figure is 175 mules.... and the mod works on a 1:1 sprite ratio! However the train itself was not well-managed, and most of the mules were not trained as pack animals. One result was that the train consistently lagged behind the regiment. This in turn required Custer to detach over 20% of his men to guard it. These troops were sorely missed in his attack on the village. At the moment we are struggling to represent the train, so this is one of the first areas we would like to look at.

Hope that helps.

Kind regards

Martin (J)

Hi Martin - Sorry for my delay in response, as I have been out of town.

I have reviewed your requests and it sounds like you have done everything you can within the limitations of the game engine. Further changes would require involvement from Norb to modify the engine, and there are no plans to do this in the foreseeable future. Sorry if I couldn't be of more help..
