Thanks Norb. Quick reply appreciated.

By the way, in my spreadsheet, I will include only things that adjust the working of the game. Not pretty things like flags, uniforms etc with hundreds of .csv etc files. Reb Bugler will have me for a Philistine, but one Regimental Colour looks very much like another to me.

Otherwise it will be the widest spreadsheet in history.

OOB's and terrain, maybe, but only if they alter existing .csv's etc rather than just add a few new ones.

There are two buttons on the bottom of the left screen. They are up and down buttons. Select the mod you want to use and use the buttons to move it up or down.
Thanks, i must have been blind
But - the tooltip for the UP-button says "Increase Priority". Isn't that wrong if the mods down
the list get loaded last?

In going through the first few mods for my spreadsheet, I notice of course that the entire .csv file must be replaced even though only one or two lines might actually have been amended.

I conclude that it would be really very useful for users who were interested in learning how mods work, or perhaps probing why mods don't work, if the lines of any .csv file that have been amended from the original were highlighted in a different colour for reference.

It might even be just one entry in one column within a line.

Any thoughts ?

Yes, they have it backwards with regards to the effect but correct in that the top of the list is read first. Since players only care about the effect, those descriptors should be changed.

Not necessarily. Most of the csv file mods just need the parts that are changed or added. They do not require that the entire file be reproduced.

Yep, 'priority' is mis-represented since files are prioritized from the bottom up. Probably should read 'Move Up' and 'Move Down', with a short statement explaining the priority, perhaps, "Lower placement has Priority".

I'm pretty sure just 'Drills' has to include the full csv file, then one just adds new or modified formations at the end for the mod file. A discussed rule of thumb is that unmodded lines should not be included in the other modded csv files--otherwise this would mess with other folk's mods more.

No, drills is just like the other csv files. You only have to include the new or modified formations in it. Couriers&Maps does that.

Yes, however it won't be full functioning because the GUI counts DRILLS lines down for highlighting purposes. However, I still don't understand how all this works completely. Maybe ADukes or someone will weigh in here and enlighten us all.

The count for new drills should be last regular drill + 1.

Thanks for all the input folks. I hope to learn fast.

Regarding modding of .csv files. On the first afternoon of my task I only got as far as analysing the first three mods alphabetically. 10 Mile Map, Alternative Explosions and Alternative Toolbar.

It was in the third of these that the gfx and gui files were modified. As far as I could see the Logistics folder in the Alternative Toolbar Mod contained the complete, and rather large, gfx and gui (.csv files) not just those modified lines relating to toolbar changes. I assumed, perhaps wrongly, this was the game requirement.

The Alternative Toolbar Mod was a significant one since it is known to clash with Bugles and Flags and Couriers and Maps.

Let me move on a bit and collect more data before commenting further.
