XP 64 bit is a nice OS.. Only problem I had with it though, it's next to impossible to find good working drivers for it on machines that didn't come with it. I tried to upgrade my last lenova laptop to 64 bit and I had a hell of time finding the drivers.. Many of the devices weren't even supported by it.. And on top of that, some apps wouldn't work with it either.

I've been very impressed with Windows 7.. I think Microsoft really knocked it out of the park. They always have though after releasing garbage. After Windows ME (the worst OS ever made) we got XP. After Vista we got Windows 7. :)

Hi.

I agree, they have done a pretty great job with Windows 7. The only thing that has stopped me from installing the 64 bit versions of XP, or Win 7 is my Dial-up modem drivers. There are no drivers to be found for it.

Later.

Thanks for this tip for everyone, but according to Microsoft, to use this feature, you must also add the parameter, -LARGEADDRESSAWARE, to the executable so that the program knows the memory is available. Add this after the last quotation mark under "target" in the properties of the shortcut.

Example:

"C:\NorbSoftDev\Scourge of War - Gettysburg\SOWGB.exe" -LARGEADDRESSAWARE

Otherwise, you will have just wasted a gig of memory. This seems to work for almost any program.

LP - I just go through upgrading my Lenovo laptap from 32bit Vista to 64bit Win7. I was able - after alot of time - to find the right drivers that I needed. Please send me a PM if you would like help and links I had to go through that process.

Hi.

I just tested it out on a few games, and I noticed that in some of the games it starts to play havoc with the graphics. Eventually the game slows to a crawl... I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this or not. For me I'll stick with the defaults until I can find 64bit drivers for my modem...

Later.

Thanks Willard. I'm running 32 bit on it now, but if I find the time and energy to tackle upgrading again, I'll let you know.

Michael, you said you tested "it" out on several games. Are you referring to the parameter, or the /3G switch itself? I had a problem running "Hearts of Iron" until I added the -largeaddressaware parameter.

Hi Dact, Nice to hear from you.

I used the -largeaddressaware switch. I don't have "Hearts of Iron", but if it works for you by all means use it, I can't see it causing you any harm (if that is part of your question or not). I tried it with Arma2 fully decked out, OFDR, Mafia 2, Call of Duty 4, Quake Highrez and I found that it worked well enough for Arma2, of course there were some small glitches, OFDR gave me some really bad artifacts (patched to v1.03), COD4 worked well enough but unfortunately it slowed to a crawl, Mafia 2 just flat out look at me, and said what?, and Quake Highrez worked but there was really no point to use it for QHR because it works fine all on it's own.

I have found that OFDR, and Mafia 2 suffered the most. I'm looking into a piece of software I posted earlier to see if working with the exec itself would clear up any of the problems I experienced.

Cheerios Dact! ;)
