I've searched about 10 different sources. One had his last words as my first post. The plaque on the battlefield at Gettysburg has his last words as my 3rd post. My middle post comes from a history of the regiment.

I have a book by Troani (the artist, however his name is spelled), and it says:
Don't read the rest of this if you want to know...
"My god men, your Major's down, save him. And was killed by a bullet through the mouth.

69th,
IMO Longstreet's hat was the coolest looking one on the battlefield, Yankee or Reb. Years ago when i was seriously thinking about getting into reenacting, i tried to find one like that off the shelf with no luck-nothing but modern Western, Texas cowboy type hats of which i own a few too. Even thought for a while about getting that Longstreet 'trademark' of a hat custom made!
As for that other Longstreet 'trademark' the beard, well mine's home grown already.
