I honestly have no clue at all. This game runs on every machine that meets the min requirements that I've seen (some not so well, but never a black screen).

You should post your dxdiag outpu as well. Hopefully we'll eventually find what you're missing.

Hi guys, wondering if anything was ever figured out on this as it looks like i'm having the exact same problem (v1.2). Game has been playing fine all week, but suddenly i get black screen instead of the intro. One thing new is that i saved my first game yesterday (which seems relevant since OP was also mentioning saved games).

nothing changed on the computer since the last time i played. The game simply doesn't start -ie. no intro screen or anything. Just black. As described by original poster, the curser is visible within a small error-message-sized square.

The only change (which is why i mention it) from the last time i played, was that i saved my first game before quitting last time i played. And, come to think of it, i believe that as i was shutting the game down last time, i also received an error message, but didn't think much of it since i was shutting down anyway.

Have you tried to completely uninstall, then re-install?

Add the SOWGB folder to the exception list of your security or AV software, then reinstall.

Do a Google Search of the following code OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3 - see if yoiu are having the same problem as several others due to over-heating !
