Thanks for adressing this issue.
I still think, that the CS artillery long range is a bit underpowered. I have a fight for 1 hour and still got no casualties for most guns, although they are positioned fairly close (700 yards) to the enemy and they are xperienced crew. Primary target is a infantry. Is that supposed to be like that?

I've played the third scenario of day 1 (or is it the fourth?), the one where CSA is fighting downhill against the Union arranged by the stonewalls. I forgot the name of the scenario but am 90% sure I was Rodes.

My artillery was just behind the firing lines, something like 300 yrds from the targets while my infantry was at just a little less than the maximum firing range. The battle went on for 30 minutes, I just checked 2 of the arty leaders: 0 kills.

Are we absolutely sure the tweaks inserted in the patch do not need to be refitted in the scenarios as well?

This is in beta 2. The guns are all firing canister:

Savegame has been sent to sowsupport.

For me it was Rodes scenario too.

There's only one way to check whether or not the arty is working. Play the Arty Tutorial and the DIV tutorial and take notes on the kills at X range and Y ammunition.

And it's what I'm going to do right now.

To me it's not the strength or weakness of artillery that seems well..silly. It's the fact that a regiment of 300 men can face off at inside 100 yards with one cannon with no effect that I can see on the crew. The infantry is eventually decimated and they run for the hills while the unscathed artillery crew rotate the gun toward the next victem. I'll admit I am far from an expert but at that range i would think that one volly from 300 guys aiming at 8 guys would kill or wound half the cannon crew and at least effect their speed or aim or something. Am I wrong...it seems the best way to use cannon is to role them up as close as possible and blow a hole in the enemy lines. they seem impervious to infantry musket fire.
The other factor hampering the infantry (besides the lack of target practice mentioned by Shirkon) was the tremendous amount of smoke produced by a battery. I'm reading the David Martin book on the First Day, p. 402, where Scales's brigade marched forward into the field of fire of 21 Union guns on Seminary Ridge--a holocaust. The account mentions the artillery "cover[ed] themselves for the moment in dense clouds of white smoke." It was impossible to see the battery, much less target individual crewmen, especially while reeling in the terror of a canister attack.

To the team:
are you working on the long-range-arti-low-hit-rate-issue as described above or do you consider that as historical correct or will someone change the parameters when the SDK is out?

There's basically been no answer to the question about whether or not the new tweaks need to be inserted in the scenario files or not. It might be that the arty has already been fixed but not in the scenarios?

The tweaks don't need to be inserted in the scenario files.

So, what do you think, is long range artillery effectiveness corect now? I don't say it isn't, it seems a bit too low - but I'm not theee expert.
