See my post about an extraordinary score in this.

I noticed O'Neal about to be bushwhacked from behind the stone wall, and TC'd his regiments right off, and directed them away to the south.

I disobeyed orders about keeping contact on my left, and took everyone to the "farm", flanked the Union out and took the 400 pt VP, and stayed there.

My score was 34,300 and some, which, as I said elsewhere, may mean a glitch in the scoring.

Any thoughts?

I see an intention to "fix" some of the scenarios. Which ones?
With that kind of score, you might have experienced a bug where a regiment gets stuck and continuously kills off it numbers, allowing your score to keep going up. This has been fixed in the new beta patch that will be released soon.

This was not ill conceived, it was history.
Then what's the point of the scenario? History already happened.
I think what he is saying is that, in history, there was a particular tactical problem that the Confederate commander had to deal with during the battle. He has assigned the behaviors and control issues to replicate that problem. Your job is to overcome the problem and obtain a successful outcome. That's the point of the scenario.

If you don't like such scripting in scenarios (and I have a few problems with them at times, such as Heth and Reynold's untimely scripted demises), then just play in the Sandbox. Problem solved.

Mr Spkr:
Yes, I know that is what he is trying to do, the issue is that is an uninteresting problem since we already know the solution, namely, just do what Rhodes did. No thinking is necessary. A good scenario is one where the player needs to come up with his own solutions. He is only limited by his own imagination. Being straitjacketed into replicating what a general did in 1863 is of no interest, at least to me. My interest is in the napoleonic era and I had wanted to try an attack en echelon, a common tactic during that period and even used by Longstreet on day 2. This seemed like a perfect setup. Unfortunately, the scenario author decided I should not be able to do so. He really wants to replay the battle as it was fought.

You do make a valid point concerning sandbox play, which is the main reason I bought the game. However, there are problems here too. For instance: Artillery Brigade AI Problems http://www.norbsoftdev.com/index.php?op ... 2&id=17009

So until we have an SDK where the scenarios and OOBs can be rewritten to get around these problems, we are left with the scenarios at hand.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

SDK, coming soon. I agree, that's why I got into scenario design. I prefer scenarios where the player has full control to change outcomes, given as close as possible all historic circumstances and setting.

The beauty of this game's powerful modding engine is you can make 'em your way. This new modding style will blow most other games out of the water, including TC2M.

Still, give the present scenarios a fair play, they do emulate historical situations, and steer the player to that end. Many folks enjoy this style play.

"...A good scenario is one where the player needs to come up with his own solutions. He is only limited by his own imagination. Being straitjacketed into replicating what a general did in 1863 is of no interest, at least to me...."

So what you are saying is: because I limited (or removed) the two brigades from your complete control, you can no longer think. Rodes lost this phase of the battle. You turned it off. Same thing. Are you also upset that You are not Ewell and command more troops? You are tasked with trying to take out Robinson's division. What is different between having full strength or minus 2 brigades. Your brain is needed even more... You need to work even harder. As Reb said the SDK is comming out soon.. you can change it to your hearts content. Then you can have 2 to 1 odds and Think harder as you smash the federal line. oh well.....

What I object to is having the pretense of controling these units, but in reality not having any control. In addition, I am penalized score-wise by their subsequent behavior which I am unable to influence. As I said in a previous post, if you don't want the player to interact with these brigades, take them out of the OOB I control. Then they can go on their merry way and perform whatever action they choose.

Surely you can TC the regiments and do what you want with them. See my last above?

Well, one good point you had was that you are penalized for them getting shot up.
But you can stop them. TC them.

As far as taking them out off the OOB and having them "...go on their merry way". The name "Gettysburg" on the pakage leads me to think that this is more than just a boot it up and go game. If we ignore the historical implications, there would be no challenge, and no history. The SDK will answer your problem. This scenario, as do ALL scenarios in any game of this series, is to lead you down a path, set you up to go, and let YOU make the decisions thereafter. Again, Less units under your command may restrict your options, but it doesn't make you think less. If you don't want it historical, don't play the historical scenarios... Sandbox is wonderfull....

You know, I had the exact same thing happen. O'Neal had a score of 9000 and the rest of the division had 200. It was the first time I played it. I left everyone that was AI'd alone. I didn't find Ramsuer/Iverson initially. To tell you the truth I didn't see the VP south either, (and I never looked back again) so I went after the farm. Held that until Meredith took it, then I saw the VP back up by where I started and went after that. Got a MV.

Last night I TC'd everthing, moved Doles and pulled back O'Neal and took the VP to the south along the stone wall. I finished with a +6000 score but it didn't post because of the previous score. So I think scottishsoldier is correct there is an error there.

Thanks,

Lets hope they don't disregard our scores as "pre - patch", and we have to do it all again!

Then again, I see that scenario fixes are planned, and maybe that will make some of the others easier, or at least possible!!???
