Also I think I have the same graphics chip that you have. I have an EVGA card. Did you do all the basics? (drivers, etc.) I do not think that I installed dx9 on this machine, but I can't remember. DX should be backward compatible.

yeah - running the latest driver, don't understand as I have not had issues with any other software that is(and in some cases is not) compatible with Vista/Win 7 on this machine.

I know this is just a shot in the dark, but this sounds eerily familiar to the problem I had with a recent version.. I hit the space bar to load the scenario, and nothing would happened. It turns out the keyboard wasn't working.. I doubt this is the issue, but what happens when you press escape form the main menu? Does the game exit? If it doesn't exit, this could mean the keyboard isn't working.

Does another program "steal" the focus of the game while loading?

I loaded the game on the same PC but booted into XP and no issues.

For what it is worth, try changing the setting for uniforms. If you have been reading my posts you've seen it "freezes" on me with the setting at "best", but works fine with the setting on "high".

Something you could try is to disable AA and AF in the SOWGB.ini file. Set AntiA and Anso in the [Initialization] section to 0.

Also make sure that you set the quality/performance setting of your graphic card to "Use application settings".
