Ok...I tried your suggestion, and essentially ignored Devin. I was able to score a major victory with Gamble. I had several followup questions:
1. During the height of the battle, I wanted to resupply one of my regiments. I brought the supply wagon over to it, and then selected resupply. The regiment lined up to receive ammunition. How long does it typically take to resupply a regiment?
2. As an experiment I went to the orders screen, and sent a request support order to Devin. The courier was able to deliver the message without issue. After the delivery, neither he nor the regiments under his command appeared to respond to the request. Is that by design?

My apologies... I have answered the same question ten times...
1. I believe a supplied unit will move away when it is finished re-supplying.
Ask a tester
2. Devin is detached (not TCed), so are his regiments. I may do this multiple times in the scenario (to make it difficult to recall him). So if you grab them, they may break away again, by script. If you TC them they may or may not break away. Depending on the command I used.... The intention was to make it difficult. and to rely on Gamble.
Now if you got a hard variant, Good luck....

Once a unit resupplies it will march to it's commander whether it's a Brigade or Battery commander.

I would be interested in the answer to this question, because I tried to order Devin back to my right flank via courier, too. Didn't receive a reply to my orders from him.

I'll have to find out. It could be that this function is disabled for the scenario's. I know it works for Sandbox and MP though. You can request support from AI regiments and they will send help.

They had Sharp's .52 caliber breech loading rifles, IIRC. That would allow them to get off 5-6 shots per minute as opposed to 2-3 shots that a soldier with a musket could fire. Not quite as good as a repeater, but much better than a muzzle loader.
