Will this be released on XBOX?

Post by Lord Ashram »

Because I, for one, DEARLY dearly dearly hope so... I am so sick of sitting at my stupid uncomfortable computer to play wargames, we REALLY need someone to port something over to a game system. So... any chance?

In a word, no. There are many complexities both technical and legal in converting a game from a PC platform to any of the consoles. We simply do not have the resources to do the job at all, never mind to our standards.

It's not my fault that your computer is uncomfortable :)

I think the real issue here is that you need to get your computer hooked to your TV, like the xbox. It's not that hard. Most video cards today have HDTV out. So you just get yourself a cordless mouse and keyboard. Hook up your computer and sound system and then you can use that xbox as a footstool :)

It would make sense to port and they console makers are working hard to make it easier for indies to do the port. But we really have no interest in porting. It's hard enough to support one platform. The only way it would happen is if a publisher paid someone to do the port.

So it's probably worth it to find a way to make your computer comfortable :)

Haha I love that.

Until they can come up a way to release updates, expansions, mods, etc., and have the customizable options that are available with PC games (key assignments etc.), console games will always be inferior to PC.. At least in this genre.. There is a place for console games; for example, Nintendo Wii (my kids LOVE it) and hand held consoles like the DS (my wife is addicted to Sim City on DS).

And believe me, I've played my share of Grand Theft Auto on PS2.. :)

I love gaming systems. My kids play DS like crazy. I'm addicted to my hacked iPhone. I only use it for games, not phone service. Nintendo releases very polished games and does just about everything right. Though I am upset by the new games that require the new extension to the wii controller.

But the other side of this is the destruction of the indie developer. You get a very small cut of the profits. iTunes is a complete dictatorship as to when they allow updates and how fast and what apps they present. You can't really just present your console program on the internet, you need a special development gaming system to even create a game for the consoles. It's geared towards the big boys, not the indie. Though they are trying to open things up for indies, they are making the effort. But they still have too much control in my opinion. I don't want anyone to control what we put in our game except our team and our community. They rule the game, not the system that we run on. Not walmart, not target, just us here.

Aw shucks... I am sorry to hear that:( For me, the PC will never be as comfortable as the couch:( Also, all the talk of "Well you don't have the keys" strikes me as silly... any PC game that needs more than 12 inputs as well as two direction sticks could use a redesign;)

On an aside, as someone who dabbles a bit in the game making as well, can I ask what language you use to program the game?

I used C++, Visual C++ 2005 to be exact. I make extensive use of stl. Raknet, PowerRender, Power Lobbies, are all libraries that I use. I support our own scripting class, our mod language. I think that's about everything.
