doing a video timed for more close in fighting, perhaps a infantry charge with cannister sounding off might be salacious to the viewer. The black hats (iron brigade) firing from the fence, look like their target is too far away. The smoke adds demension to weapons firing, but seeing the results of the firing is hard to determine.
"Too far away" is a relative term. Hard to tell exactly but I'm guessing they were 150 to 200 yards away which should be within effective range. What's your guess at the range?

NSD, have you determined ranges at which the various weapons will start firing? It would be nice if we could manually override that "auto-fire" range even at the cost of reduced effectiveness if, for example, we wanted to start blasting away at a line of troops 300 yards away if we saw them emerge from a woodline.

"The smoke adds dimension to weapons firing, but seeing the results of the firing is hard to determine." Exactly! Just as it should be. The smoke should obscure your vision if you're trying to view the enemy from ground level anywhere behind the firing line.

You can get farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone.

You know, I know as well as most everybody on the forum knows what is happening on the receiving end of the firing, however, to the uniformed viewer, they might not know. A video is not just for us, it's a view to the world as to the action in the game. I would love to have everybody in the world to be as enthusiastic about GB as we are. Observations and suggestions have been a hallmark of this forum, good, bad or indifferent. :)

My guess at the range would be at least 160 yds., what I was getting at is that a closer view of the rebels would have been more fulfilling. First-off the rebels were half obscured by vegitation, secondly they (rebels) were hard to see cuz of their own smoke. An slightly elevated camera view would have likely brought the fight more into focus.

Novel idea using a manual over-ride. :) What would the max range be? consumption of ammo could turn into a issue.

Oh, OK, I see what you were getting at. Yeah, having a better view of the rebs would be good. Hopefully, we'll have lots more screenshots and more video to whet our appetite.

Regarding the manual override on opening fire, just off the top of my head, how about twice the range NSD assigns as the "open fire" range? The ammunition issue is what makes it interesting. As a real life commander would have to do, you'd have to balance the expenditure of ammo against the casualties you expect to inflict at the longer range. No one said being a commander was going to be easy.

I do not think that manual override will be something that we can get in this release, but it is a good idea and I would like to see us come up with some answer to it at some point.

I've been pretty quiet as for the wish list on this forum, but I have a quick question: What will the blood/gore be in this game? I'm not asking for Rambo blood, but I also don't want it to look like the soldiers are just falling down for a nap.

If everything made it into the first release, what would we have to look forward to? Hopefully, some of the things we've kicked around can be retrofitted into the game in a future patch or when you release "Gettysburg Ultra"!

Those extra's are part of Norb's "Director's Cut" and will be released at his discretion. :cheer: ;)
Personally I have alway's had a taste for the macabre and would enjoy a rather messy cannister shot.

I'm up for lots of blood myself. Maybe I'll throw in some terrain decals of blood :) I haven't studied the dead bodies much, but we'll have to get Tim to do some dismemberment.
