All text has "disappeared" from all menus

This one is easier to show than to describe. I'm attaching a screen shot.

I'm running Windows 8.1.

The game worked well on the first run, then after I restarted the game this started happening and I can't get it to stop.

I forgot to say that this issue has persisted across several reinstalls and restarts.
