courier system game design defect
courier system game design defect
I guess I am really frusturated because I prefer the courier system as more realistic than the click to order. I would say I am about to throw this game in the trash. After having re installed the game I have tried a few times to play GB 5, and the brigades scattered around the map do not respond appropriately to courier orders. It takes minutes for the courier to make his away across the map, and for example I will give Col Coster order : form your brigades into a column and march to map point:" then Coster goes to the map point and his regiments move a few feet, change into lines and stop. This is a universal proble in this game. I think it is certainly a defect in game design. Seems like all subordinates do same thing, the leader will move to objective but his regiments will not. and yes, I enter the order time at beginning of game.

There is an avid 'courier play only' band of brothers here. It works great for them, you just must learn the sequence of orders and be patient with the procedures. The title of this thread is in error.

Re: courier system game design defect
how is my title in error? There is a defect in courier orders, regardless of whether other players are playing it. Every combination of order I attempt fails.
i suspect as I am playing 1.5001 I might be able to patch.
How can I get the latest patch? when I try an update on the menu I still end up with

For sure, patch up to 1.61, it has addressed several courier issues.
To learn courier play hook up with the Kriegspiel clan on Teamspeak and I'm sure they will be happy to get you through the hoops of courier play...there's a somewhat steep learning curve that must be adhered to.

Uhm, how do you hook up with these guys?
Everyone else here just clicks there orders? seems unrealistic

RebBugler is right. The courier system does have a steep learning curve, but once learned, you will find HITS to be extremely challenging and enjoyable. I have played it for many years and look with pity upon those who still need to fly around the battlefield issuing instant orders and removing all terrain obstructions in order to have a clear view.
I wrote a tutorial on using the courier system some time ago. It is a bit dated, but it will certainly get you started off in the right directions. Here is the link: Action At Trostle Farm

I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

You have to try and MIMIC the ingame point and click mechanics as closely as possible for order sequence.
So the order sequence is 'general move here, form line'. If you try ingame using point and click - press form column, the units will form column, then double click on a location for your general. Only he will move there. But reverse those orders and he and his troops will move there.
Likewise with a change facing order, the sequence is 1) destination, 2) facing, 3) formation, or at the very least, 1) facing, 2) formation for an on-the-spot formation rotation.

I stand corrected. It appears that we did let a bug slip through the cracks with our latest patch...There is an avid 'courier play only' band of brothers here.
