Menu text unreadable - game graphics a mess

I have a Windows 8 machine with a NVidia 580GTX, Asus P9X79WS mobo with Intel i7 3820 and 32GB of RAM.

I purchased the game in March for a different computer with Windows 7 and it worked fine. I just re installed the game under Windows 8 and every menu in the game can not be read. Colored blocks are in the place where text should be. I can highlight each block and interact with it. But I am just purely guessing what each text area should say. I have to look in the manual to help reference what the text should say.

I managed to get into a game and the graphics are all messed up as well. every unit, tree or fence has a black box around it. Absolutely unplayable.

I tried both version 1.5 and 1.6 Beta with the same results

I tried to do a screen capture with "Print Screen" and snipping tool but neither tool captures the game screens, only the desktop "underneath" the game screens. Please help

Actually updated Nvidia driver from ver 314.xx to 320.18 after I entered this post. I hate doing that without good reason, but this seemed as good a reason as any other. Problem fixed.
