Random Maps 5 - Updated Feb 23

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

I've updated these, added hills/mountains and some other details. Also fixed the objectives for sandbox, and added water sounds to the creeks. (Use the same download link in the first post.)

These are a great addition. Thank you. I sometimes think they actually make the AI a little more successful in that enemy columns don't get so spread out because of the greater route options. Maybe I'm over-thinking (rare).

G,

Love the new maps. I'm still getting the objectives more or less grouped in the upper left-hand corner but I think its a mod of mine. I'll hunt it down.

Tac,

Definitely with fewer roads the armies corps and divisions tend to be somewhat nearby each other when the fighting starts. Excellent!

Jack,

I fixed the objectives in the update yesterday. You'd need to re-download RandomMaps5b.zip. The one you have is probably RandomMaps5.zip which was posted Saturday.

Thanks for all your work on these maps. The standard NSD maps are great, but once you you've played on them a lot you know all the general terrain. With these new maps, you're marching into unknown country and don't know what's over the next rise or on the other side of the woods. Keeps it interesting.

You can get farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone.

Jack, I was thinking that the AI does a better job with MORE roads (actually a road grid).

G,

Thanks Brother. Will do. :)

Tac,

Agreed. Am finding with more roads, with no objectives, the Federal Army gets spread out way to much, and with their generally smaller Divisions, get cut up badly by the larger Confederate ones.

This is excellent 1809 country ;). well done. B)
Question: in the update is it just the jump maps that have changed or the terrain aswell?
