Black Screen of Death
Re: Black Screen of Death
Cliometrician - here is a copy of the folder in question.
Hopefully, one of the team-members can provide a solution!
But, if bad turns to worst - you can always Re-Install - But that would be a last-case-solution, I would try to find out exactly what happened first.

Basically, it will usually show why the game is not starting, but I don't think that I have ever seen the same problem that you are having.Hopefully, one of the team-members can provide a solution!

Hey, one more thing that I forgot to mention, but this is a long-shot…..If you haven’t Installed anything new on your Computer since this problem…..Do a System Restore to a date that preceded this.
Basically, this should put your Computer System back to the same state that it was in when your game was working!

Re: Black Screen of Death
Here is the only thing written on that text document:
Game Launched
20:56:01 Version:SOWGB
1.4026
20:56:02 Loading Defined Lists
Is that all that's supposed to be there?
I set a new restore point last night when the problem first arose, but nothing changed.

Re: Black Screen of Death
We might be saying the same thing only using different words, did you set a new restore point, or did you go back to a previous restore point.I set a new restore point last night when the problem first arose, but nothing changed.
You would have to go back to a previous restore point for this to work, and that is if this would work.
Also – have you tried playing a different game that is Installed on your Computer to see what happens?

Re: Black Screen of Death
I went to a previous restore point last night. Simple games still work; I don't have any other complex game downloaded.

Hmm, OK…I can’t really think of anything else, so sorry that I couldn’t be of any assistance.I went to a previous restore point last night. Simple games still work; I don't have any other complex game downloaded.

Re: Black Screen of Death
cliometrician - Hey, if you haven't re-installed the game as of now, you can try this.
In the Work \ folder locate the SOWGB.ini file - its the same file that you opened to change the screen-resolution above.
Move that file out of the Work \ folder - and try to start the game.
I have tried it, and what this does - it will create another SOWGB.ini file - but it will put the games resolution back to a default state - and also it will stop any mods from starting up!
If this work - once you are at the start-up menu - just change the screen-resolution - and then exit the game. Basically, the screen-resolution requires starting the game, again to take effect.

Re: Black Screen of Death
Well, something changed, but still bad. The black screen no longer comes up, but now I get a Runtime Error, which I had not gotten before. Still can't get to the menu. I'm still befuddled, but I'm not going to reinstall yet; maybe I'm getting closer to it working, who knows.
