A Crisis of the First Order
I've been merrily playing SOWG MP with a friend for a long time, until last night. Going through the lobby we were unable to connect, then the same thing happened when we tried IP. Apparently, my computer is somehow at fault.
Yesterday I was knocked off line (reason unknown) and the error indicated a problem with my Belkin router. I unplugged and plugged it back in, as I've done before, to no avail. The error message said I could connect by pushing the button on the back of the router (the reset button, I guess). No luck. Then I unplugged and plugged in the router again and this time I was back online. But from that point on I have been unable to connect for MP through Lobby or IP.
I have a feeling that pushing that reset button caused the problem, but I'm at a loss to know what to do to correct the problem.
Gasp...gotta play SOWG MP....Please Help!!!

Have you checked your port settings? Maybe when you reset your router, everything go set back to the factory defaults. Reference this thread if you need to set it back up from scratch:

Also don't forget about the DMZ feature for Belkin routers. I have a Belkin and have to enable the DMZ and enter my local IP address in the blank, or it causes me major MP problems.

Re: A Crisis of the First Order
Oh, Lordy, not this again. When I first tried to map the port according to the directions, I tried 4 or 5 times and nothing worked. I called computer support (in India of course) and spent 30 or 40 bucks and the instructions I got there did not work. I finally gave up and paid the Geek Squad 100 dollars to come to my home and do the job. That worked......good grief, my MP days may be over......I'll follow those instructions one more time but I don't have much confidence in my feeble computer knowledge that it will work.

Perhaps if you ask Little Powell nicely, he'll write a step by step procedure for opening a port in a Belkin Router.

I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

I've heard Hamachi might work for MP, you might try that before giving up.

Re: A Crisis of the First Order
It really is just a matter of setting the port number 31791 in your virtual servers (for Belkin) and then entering your local IP address as the IP for the port. It's literally a 2 or 3 click change. I wish I was on my home computer, I could send you screenshot.

If you fork out a couple of dollars, LP could fly down to give you hand. I find he is much better than the Geek Squad any day. The man has a pretty big brain. :blink:Perhaps if you ask Little Powell nicely, he'll write a step by step procedure for opening a port in a Belkin Router.
Just fooling around guys!

Little Powell, if you live in East Texas I'll pay your expenses here to fix my problem.
Ok, I'm going to take a deep breath and try again, and if it works, thanks you in advance!
