Re: Sallie of the 11th PA ..... tribute to a gallant dog
If anyone can get me at least 8 frames of a Sallie lookalike walking I'll give it a shot, but as stated above, I can't fix the backward movement part. All I need are animation sheets, no concern about their size, they'll have to be scaled down anyway...no sprites are necessary with this experiment.

Re: Sallie of the 11th PA ..... tribute to a gallant dog
A dog would look strange/silly unless it is made into an animated sprite, with all of the frames etc. Not an easy undertaking.. Just ask the animated sprite guru's, Tim, gunship, those guys...

Re: Sallie of the 11th PA ..... tribute to a gallant dog
At least 2 of the frames must be of Sallie sniffing another dog, in case two regiments with dogs meet.

Re: Sallie of the 11th PA ..... tribute to a gallant dog
OK, Sallie lives again, and she's immortal this time, because she's in essence a modded flag, and, ya can't kill a flag.
I'll most probably include her in my next update of Bugles and Flags, for now I've included all the BF sandbox oobs with Sallie...look for her name in the title. Also the GB in 3 days oobs, so those scenarios will include Sallie. Bugles and Flags must be enabled to use the Sallie mod.
Not near as realistic as sprite treatment, but I doubt if that will happen, just too many files involved for one pooch, not to mention the countless hours it would take creating and rendering just one sprite.
Best observed from the left of the regiment, the other angles gets Sallie moving sideways and from the right side, backwards. :S
So, this is my tribute to Sallie, may she forever live in the hearts of those who know her history, and those who marched, fought and gave their lives with her at their side.
Unzip and install as a mod.

Thanks Reb Bugler. Can't thank you enough.
I have done (I think) a private message to you. Tell me if it doesn't come and I will repeat it. The satellite link glitched a bit during the process.

Re: Sallie of the 11th PA ..... tribute to a gallant dog
The Confederate 1st Maryland Infantry went into Gettysburg with a dog. It was shot during the battle. The Yankees probably ate the poor mut. It is featured in a great Don Troiani painting of the 1st Maryland storming Culp's Hill. By all accounts, he was right up front with the Major (Torsch, I believe) and colors and took a couple of hits before he expired. Good job Reb...didn't think you could do it.

Love you millions Reb Bugler
Just to say that I will be putting my hand in my pocket in due course to get a full set of animated sprites done for the correct breed of dog. Cost no problem.
I guess I will need.
(a) Standing, looking from right to left.
(b) Walking
(c) Running
(d) Biting some Grey Legs in skirmish (Iverson's Brigade on Oak Hill.)
I think 'sit' and 'lie down' would not be necessary and Sallie was not known to take cover.
I have had a number of scurrilous suggestions of other basic dog activities which might be included ..... but I shall ignore them. Peeing on a Confederate cannon might be symbolic though. Shame it's a female.
If anyone knows of a graphics artist who might be engaged to undertake this work in a sympathetic manner I should be glad to hear.

Re: Sallie of the 11th PA ..... tribute to a gallant dog
Got your PM's, certainly appreciate your correspondence. Really didn't need to reply since you said it all, and I agree.
Apologies for the dalmatian, no bull terriers to be found.
I'd hold off on commissioning sprite work until you find someone to take on the files, in fact, this may be impossible for the realism you suggest without re-coding. And getting Norb to recode for Sallie is probably more unlikely than finding that two headed dog on Neptune's third moon.
Although this mod took WAY longer to build than I imagined, I did learn a lot of good stuff from it. Getting that dogFlag out front of the regiment was a trial and error gauntlet. But now I know how...Thanks for the idea, I can now mod similar ideas fairly smoothly since I know the procedures.
Oh, and thank your Irish cousin con20or B) , he really came up with the modded flag idea, I had no connect here until he mentioned a flag glitch I had fixed for the next expansion.
