Recruiting: MP Scenario games using HITS and Couriers

Post by Blaugrana »

Trailer: Experience the prelude that led to the attack on Iuka. Write another page in the heroic tales of Armstrong's cavalry as they cut off the US supply lines. Or play as General Stanley's men who must escort vital supplies to the front lines.

This is Leffe7's intro to the latest instalment of a trilogy of MP scenarios which he is planning, scripting and umpiring for the Kriegsspielers. He writes a fictional scenario, sets it up as a SoW MP scenario and sends each commander a briefing, with some (fictional) historical context, a map, an OOB and their goals. The commanders then devise a strategy and write orders for their subordinates, which they distribute before the battle. Then we play. These have, for me, been the most absorbing SoW games I've ever played and other players have said the same.

If you like the sound of these battles, please come and play in one of our regular scratch games (most nights from 7.30 until the early hours of the morning UK time) and then sign up for a role in a scenario game. TeamSpeak server details on the Kriegsspiel forum

We look forward to seeing you. There are some great AARs of the first battle on the Kriegsspiel site. This battle may be fought again, so if you would like to take part in a possible re-run, it might be best to save reading for another day...

I'd like to echo what Blaugrana said. Playing a scenario game MP is a wonderful experience. Rather than seeking victory in an artificial way using points, these allow both teams to make plans in the context of the military situation described in the briefing.

You know your own objectives, but will often not know what the enemy's are. Are they just to prevent you achieving yours, or something else entirely? You may (or may not) be able to deduce these from the background information and intelligence reports included in your pre-game briefing.

Anyone is welcome to join our weekday HITS & courier games via the link Blaugrana provided. Before playing the less frequent scenario games, we do ask players to have tried at least one of our regular games first. This is purely for practical reasons....... ie to ensure that you have the latest patch, any necessary mods enabled or disabled, a functioning mike etc.

@Digby. I was reading the Kriegsspiel forums and noticed your post about supply wagon speeds. You can mod them. The GCM has an option of slow, medium, or fast. That would probably remedy your scenario's problem of the wagons being impossible to capture.

That's certainly useful to know KGS. Thanks. It may not completely solve the problem though, as in last week's scenario game, Digby's cavalry did manage to catch the enemy supply wagons, it's just that he couldn't capture them, even when his cavalry advanced right through them (both mounted & dismounted).

I think that's happened to me too in SP.

Hi Clingman, welcome to the forum!

As soldier gives in the link in his post, there's one big MP community there that is based around one major mod by Garnier. There's a second community given in the link in the first post in the top of this thread. We use HITS (headquarters in the saddle) which gives a first-person view of the battlefield, and couriers to send all orders to subordinate units and messages to fellow players.

The two styles of game are quite different - its like two completely separate games. Our view is that the HITS and couriers games are much more realistic than you get with a remote camera view with the players struggling with command and communication problems fairly similar to the actual generals of the time. There is much more fog of war and this suits our Kriegspiel style of play.

Our HITS games are also less competitive and we are currently playing a campaign and scenarios that have a background and various subtle objectives.

Both types of play are valid and have their fans, so try both and see which you prefer.

Yes, hits seems more realistic, since generals were not able to fly around the map and see everything from above. I need to downloads some mods, I imagine. Are the mods all available on the norb website?
