New user feeling overwhelmed
New user feeling overwhelmed
Hi guys,
I've just started playing this great game and am reasonably comfortable as a brigade commander but on attempting to command a division I am quickly overwhelmed by the number of things going on. I have downloaded and played the extra brigade level scenarios and can manage them ok. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to move up to division (and above) command? I have tried the division tutorial and it seems quite difficult.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Welcome aboard - can I ask what difficulty settings are you playing on?
Re: New user feeling overwhelmed
Thanks for the welcome. I'm playing on militia level.

Ok - i just wanted to make sure you werent on the highest difficulty
I think for the division tutorial you have control of three brigades? Or is it two..anyway.
Division play can seem a bit daunting at first - but it really isnt. What you need to try and do is control your brigades using the brigade commanders as much as possible. So order them somewhere, then give them a brigade formation. That way they do all of the moving of the regiments for you and you wont feel so overwhelmed because in effect you are only controlling three units, the generals.
When things start getting a bit hairy you can take individual control of your regiments (the little flag icon, TC troops), and dont feel like you need to have them all running around all the time. Form them into lines, and only move a few units around the enemy flanks. The Ai commanders of your troops will do a good job of fighting most of the time, you just get them to the right place.

Thanks Con20or, I was thinking I had to control every unit myself. Will give it a try

Nope, not at all - but there will be times when you will want to and be glad that you can

I know what you are going through. I found that micro managing everything isn't the way to go so now I let my brigade commanders take control, and every once in awhile I'll tc them to give basic instructions then just letting them carry on. I have found that the A.I is pretty smart, and can fight if not better than if I TC them, and micro manage their movements, and attack orders. Keep in mind though that some brigade commanders will go off on their own, and get themselves into situations you don't want them to get into that you may not wish them to go so just keep an eyeball overall.Hi guys,

Trust in your commanders (A.I), and don't spend much time on micromanaging your troops. Doing this has freed me up to really think out better plans of attack... I now win more than I ever have.

Don't listen to Mike.
Don't trust the ai to control your troops.
TC (take control) your brigade commanders right away.
Just keep plugging away. Soon you'll be able to effectively control a 4,000 man division without any trouble.
But no doubt, it's tough at first. Everyone struggles. Have faith and perseverance.
And make sure you're really comfortable with brigade command before you jump to division command.
Best of luck.
