Courier Pathing
Re: Courier Pathing
Hi Beefstu
Does it only happen on antietam? i tested it with the old alpine one.
Did you try it with all mods disabled?

Re: Courier Pathing
Garnier - were you replying to con20or or to Beef Stu here? Did you mean that con20or didn't see couriers use roads because the roads are not connected (and the AI knows this when calculating the path for the courier)? That's just because the roads are not all connected on the map bmp files. ... There are a lot on the antietam maps.
That would make sense to me. If that is so, maybe test on Gettysburg, con20or, where there are plenty of roads? You should definitely see couriers taking roads, though it may not seem problematic.
To see first-hand why some of us are very keen to get it changed, you are, as always, very welcome to join in a HITS & Couriers MP game.

Re: Courier Pathing
I Thanks Blaugrana, but to get it fixed ill need a before and after savedgame for norb, and i cant get that in MP.
I'll try Gettysburg, and if that doesnt work ill have to ask one of you to forward a SP game illustrating the problem.

Re: Courier Pathing
OK - understand why you need saved SP game. As we've mentioned, it happens in both SP and MP. EDIT: Sorry, I thought it did. Now not sure it happens in SP.
My invite to an MP game was not so you could see it happen - that should be easy in SP, but to see, first-hand, how it effects MP games so much. I'm amazed how many aspects of the game and its features have very different effects when playing in different ways (SP / MP / HITS / free camera / couriers / normal etc) and descriptions are all very well, but I find I only really 'get' things when I experience them.
Thanks again for all your time on dealing with players' concerns & requests.
We are having some great HITS & Couriers games and are much less prone to freezes.

Yes indeed. I just fixed my copy last night. Fixing all three took quite a bit of time. The Fox's Gap map also has problems. It's not hard to fix individual intersections in a mod, the trouble is finding all of them. There are a lot on the antietam maps.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.
Re: Courier Pathing
I just tried it again on the gettysburg map - same routine. 4 officers seperated by numerous roads. The couriers went straight to the recipient everytime, none went by road. I tried placing the sender on the road to see if that made a difference, tried listing 'use roads' as an order, nothing.
Once again
- is this MP only or just in SP?
- do you have any mods enabled? Diasable them and try it again.
Someone is going to have to send in a savedgame - any volunteers?

Re: Courier Pathing
I thought it happened in both SP and MP. Sorry for not double-checking. Have just tried a Sandbox battle in SP and got the same results as you, con20or. Will keep experimenting (will change my settings so I can track couriers on map) in SP to see if I can get it to do in SP what I've seen in MP.
I have played quite a few MP games with no mods. I believe this has been seen in vanilla MP games - I hope other players can confirm.
EDIT: Just played another SP sandbox game, with free camera and icons on map so I could see more easily what was going on. Couriers went straight as an arrow. I then did it again with MTG's Couriers & minimaps mod enabled (as we use that often in MP games I play in) and got same result.
Is it an MP thing????
