1.4 patch and OOBs
As I've mentioned previously, I've been playing around with some of the OOBs to produce larger command staffs for senior generals, and also longer wagon trains. Just for the look really.
Pre-patch I had managed to increase the divisional supply trains to 5 wagons by increasing headcount from 15 to 75. That seemed to be the maximum at the time.
Post 1.4, the larger command staffs still appear, but the wagon trains have all gone back to just 1 wagon. Has anyone any ideas on why this might be, and how I can change it back please?

Re: 1.4 patch and OOBs
This was under bug fixes which might explain it:
* Ammo wagons now use the artillery sprite ratio so ammo wagon troop strength is not affected by sprite ratio changes.

Yes, we had to do this or even the standard sprite ratio was messing up the ammo wagons. Reb can tell you more about it, but I think they looked like horses without wagons..

Not a good look :silly:Yes, we had to do this or even the standard sprite ratio was messing up the ammo wagons. Reb can tell you more about it, but I think they looked like horses without wagons..
Ok chaps. Thanks.
Any ideas on a work-around to achieve bigger trains? In reality a typical division would have several dozen wagons.
I've tried adding new lines in the OOB spreadsheets for additional wagons. That works, but is a less than elegant solution as you then have to keep track of all the individual wagon sprites if you TC them. They also bunch up on roads when in column, which they did not do before.
Another thought I had was to set up the wagon train as a brigade within the division, under its own commander. The progame picks-up the commander ok, but not the wagons unfortunately.

I posted this a few days ago but no-one has responded. Essentially I'm trying to achieve longer ammunition trains. Come on folks, can someone help an old-timer with a wagon fetish?Any ideas on a work-around to achieve bigger trains? In reality a typical division would have several dozen wagons.

All the things you have been trying are the right way to go. If increasing the head count does nothing, and adding additional wagons is too tedious to manage, then I'm afraid that's all you can do without getting really complicated. Anything beyond that would probably involve creating a new unit class with formation etc., and there would be several logistics files to alter, not just the OOB.

Thanks LP. Noted.
I know the question of unit 'bunching' on roads more generally has been mentioned before. Do you know whether there are any plans to modify that aspect of the game please?

It is not high on the list. In actuality, bunching on the roads is historically accurate if you read accounts from those in the ranks.

Well there's bunching & bunching. But I understand you guys do have to establish priorities.
Thanks for responding Jim.

Re: 1.4 patch and OOBs
Just a little history info because I'm always eager to share/discuss it; bunching was bad even for Jackson's foot cavalry. I have read accounts of what it was like on the march. Columns constantly halted, marched, bunched up, marched again. Soldiers spoke of always looking forward to the next halt so they could take a little break to eat, boil coffee, or take a 10 minute nap.
