Well it went. I downloaded a program "wine". I then downloaded SOW and played a divisional tutorial. No hiccups while playing, it played very smooth.
WOW - I would have thought that that would not have been possible!

Great Work, I never could get it to work with the Linux \ Mandriva version!

But, I didn't try the wine thing!

The wine thing is relatively new and I used the stable one there is a beta one but I haven't tried that one. When the game booted up it had my activation code but wouldn't activate but it did let me go to the tutorial and play it. I will check my forum message and see if any one responded. Also there is a kazillion aps that are being developed and some are in use, but I haven't figured out if any of them will let me use an activation code to get in the game.

If you read the faq for Wine you will see that all other emulators (if you wish to call wine that) are based on Wine's software to a great degree. I do suggest that Wine be used since all other products are based on it.

Also, RDBoles have you tried TC2M?

Not yet but I was going to. I'm going to check the forum and then do TC2M.

Hey, I think that it is great to explore new ways of doing things, but I’m sort of fond to the way that Windows OS works, so I’ll probably stick to that!

I find that moving back and forth through Windows is a lot easier than trying to do the same thing through Linux .

It would have been good if one activation code allowed you to play on both versions without the need to activate \ deactivate – considering that it is on the same Computer!

Question – if you ran the program through Linux \ Windows – would that not solve the activation problem?

I mean, isn’t Linux using Windows to run the program, or is it running the program only through Linux?

I think Linux is running through Windows, at least on my computer it is. I have a dual boot at start up. When in Linux,Ubuntu, the activation code was visible, but nothing I clicked would make it go. Only when deactivating from my original game in windows and returning to Linux did it allow me run the sample game.
I found a game sight for Ubuntu that listed a bunch of rts games from windows and or mac but not our game.
I'll try the latest beta app from wine and see if that will make a difference. I have this hard drive bay that I use and the Ubuntu is on disk no. 3 with an unauthorized copy of XP. So it might be a little unsteady.
I'm on disk no 1 right now and have to log off and on again when I switch.

OK, that would make sense since the game is not really designed to work with the Linux System.

Yeah, I have to do the same thing, I have my copy Installed on my second HDD – but installed it in a partition.

Did you install a fresh copy of the game in Unbuntu/Wine? If you haven't, and tried to run the game via Wine from the Windows install of the game then I can see that causing you problems from the get go, install a fresh unadulterated copy then give it another try.
