Still Getting Runtime Errors :(
Hi everyone,
I'm aware that this topic has been discussed before, but I feel my situation may be a bit different, and the advice given to others has not worked for me. I installed SoW yesterday, entered my activation code, installed a few mods, and was able to play 3 or 4 battles. I love the game so far, and this morning I got on the computer to play again. I double clicked the short cut and immediately got a black screen, followed after a minute or so by an error message saying something like "runtime error...caused the program to terminate in an unusual way...SOWGB.exe."
Following advice I saw on the forums, I checked the log for my antivirus software, Norton 360 v5.0, saw that a full virus scan had occured overnight, and decided to add my SoW folder to the exclusions list. However, this was not effective. Next I tried uninstalling and reinstalling to a different location, this time right onto the C: drive and not in program files. This also seems to have been ineffective. I still can not get past the black screen and runtime error.
Any suggestions on what to do would be much appreciated. I'm not sure how to check registry files so I don't know if that might be the problem.
Extra info on my computer:
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
2.5 GHz dual core processor
3 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9300 GE with 1.5 GB memory
Thanks,
lilmonty94

Have you tried disabling Norton completely temporarily as a test?

Fully patched?
And here are the mistakes. First you had the game installed in the Program Files folder, second you uninstalled the game because reinstalling would have been enough. Did you add another exception for the new installation path?and decided to add my SoW folder to the exclusions list. However, this was not effective. Next I tried uninstalling and reinstalling to a different location, this time right onto the C: drive and not in program files.

Re: Still Getting Runtime Errors :(
I DLed the 1.3 version. Yes, I put the new install in the exceptions list before trying to run the .exe and it still gave a runtime error. The thing about Norton 360 is that, short of completely deleting it from the hard drive, there's no clear cut way to turn it "off". The most you can do through its interface is put it in a silent mode and disable the firewall. Even ending the process via Task Manager doesn't work, as if its in Silent Mode the process just opens up again immediately.
I'm lost. And ADukes, i'm really not sure what you mean, because if I was going to install it to a new location, why wouldn't I uninstall it first?

Hi.
Have you ever thought to take a look in your services, and see if you can disable it in there? I don't use Nortons, so I don't know if it can be found in your services or not. If so just turn it off in there.
Also, it should be found in your process's (task manager), you could just shut down those process's. That is what I use to do when I was running AVG.
OR, I have no idea what I am talking about...
Later.

Re: Still Getting Runtime Errors :(
Edit: No it does the same thing as ending the process, it just starts again after a few seconds.
Thanks for trying to help, anyway.

Then go into your services, and stop from there.
try it, believe me, it will stop it in it's tracks...
later, and good luck Sir!

Reinstall patch 1.3.
To fix the previous installation before you were thinking about installing it to a new location. And ADukes, i'm really not sure what you mean, because if I was going to install it to a new location, why wouldn't I uninstall it first?
Re: Still Getting Runtime Errors :(
I hate Norton. I use Avast! Small footprint and free. And you have the option to disable it for 10 minutes, an hour, until you restart or always.

Re: Still Getting Runtime Errors :(
Ok, I disabled the Firewall, put SOWGB/SOWGB.exe/Scourge of War in the list of tags for Norton to ignore, and reinstalled once again. Now the demo is working fine, but I'm still waiting for my activation number to come from tech support since the game didn't deactivate properly the first time I uninstalled. Thank you all for the help. Now its just a waiting game!
Thanks!
