I'd like to see some regimental colors-state flags, or at least the ability to mod them in somehow. i know there are some flags in the game that we don't see, it would be cool to see more.

Check out rebbuglers mod Bugles and Flags v7

Con20or's list of 5 at the head of this thread are the one's I would most like to see. Particularly 1, 2 & 5. Several have been mentioned by others previously I think.

I have one new one. That is to have the option of disabling the detailed up-to-date strength reports in the OOB pane in both single & multiplayer. Am suggesting this because I don't think this level of detail was available to the actual commanders in the heat of battle. What with the smoke, disorganisation, officer casualties, stragglers etc I doubt that even brigade commanders would have had more than an impressionistic view of their losses until the evening of a battle, or even the following morning. For detailed accurate information on casualties from every brigade & battery to flow up the command chain during the battle was surely impossible. Even if reliable transmission had been in place, there wasn't the capability to collate the information from potentially scores of brigades & batteries, and present running totals to the C in C.

Yet at the moment an army or corps commander can obtain a current read-out of exact losses by corps, division, brigade & regiment, merely by navigating around his OOB. Not only that he gets a detailed & accurate count of enemy casualties too.

One possibility would be to limit the OOB information to the starting position, so you always know what you had before the battle. That may be too extreme. A halfway house would be to still allow access to another generals's full OOB details, but only by clicking on his flag. This would represent you riding over to him to have a conversation about how his corps/division etc is getting on.

Would be interested to know what others think about this idea. I appreciate that not everyone will want to play this way, which is why I'm suggesting this as an option.

might tie in to some of the pathing problems but i notice that when regiments are retreating, they sometimes retreat directly toward enemy lines and get shot up even more than they should. I noticed also that this happens a lot where the unit will retreat to safety but then a second retreat happens where they move toward enemy lines.

it's a wonderful sight to behold

Makes sense as an option for the higher realism levels. Sorry Norb :(

I'd love to see some Union sprites for the three Bucktail regiments (13th PA Reserves, 149th & 150th PA).

No sorry there, Norb and most of the team are really Fog or War gung ho. I, on the other hand, want lots of info, accurate maps, casualty counts by the second, et al.

I would like to see both options made available, Fog of War and Gameplay...two stock toolbar options perhaps? ...plus optional mini maps. Sure, we mod them, but the stock scenarios are fixed.

That would be great for multiplayer. I always look and see what I'm up against and how they are doing. Shouldn't get that much intel in a MP game. Well done, Martin.

I have a complaint about the effectiveness of cavalry vs. infantry in solitaire sandbox play. Time and time again I have had fresh infantry regiments surrender in a melee with mounted cavalry. Most recent example: the 4th Texas, just placed into line for the first time, with about 405 men was charged by the 1st Vermont of Kilpatrick's Brigade. The Texans surrendered with 151 men left.

Of course, all examples like this are utterly ahistorical, whether at Gettysburg or any other major battle of the war. It was suicide for cavalry to make charges like that against infantry.....but not in SOW.

Recall that on the third day at Gettysburg Kilpatrick ordered Farnsworth's brigade of cavalry to charge Longstreet's infantry. Farnsworth, knowing it was futile, led the 1st Vermont on its death ride.

I seem to recall that in the last patch the cavalry was reduced by one-fourth to account for horse-holders. Not good enough.

So my wishlist: limit cavalry's ability to charge infantry.
