SDK 1.3: What Happened to the Courier Message: Move Unit to... Command?
SDK 1.3: What Happened to the Courier Message: Move Unit to... Command?
This came up in another topic when I was working with Davinci on an issue re: the new SDK 1.3.
I created a mod called Courier Mod. In the Logistics folder I put the courier.csv file. I enabled this mod and created a Div v Div Sandbox game.
If I use the old courier.csv file 3-08-2011 and I create a message from Rodes (division commander) to Daniel (brigade commander) I have the option for Move to... and Move Unit to.... If I select Move Unit to...-> Map Location then off goes the brigade like it should.
If I use the new courier.csv file 4-05-2011 I only have the Move To.. option. If I select Move to...-> Map Location Daniel moves off to the location leaving his regiments behind.
Where is the Move Unit to... -> Map Location for the new courier.csv file? How do I move my whole brigade to a map location?
I don't use the Courier system at this point so I may be missing something. The only reason I bring it up is that it seemed a significant change.
I know the word courier results in much wailing and gnashing of teeth. If this has been covered somewhere else I apologize.

The same way you would do it without the courier system. How do I move my whole brigade to a map location?

Damn! I really hate asking questions which have been answered before somewhere else. Sorry guys. :pinch:When giving the 'Move to map location' command, you also have to give the unit a formation order. Otherwise, the unit won't move.
Here is a typical movement order that I give. It is all in one order:
1. Move to a map location.
2. Face your unit in this direction.
3. Change to this formation.
4. Stance order. Hold, defend, attack, etc.
5. Use roads if possible. (only if this is more efficient than cross country travel.

Hey, I was running into the exact same problem, thanks to both of you, but this answered my question as well.I really hate asking questions which have been answered before somewhere else.
Without a formation the units are not going to follow the leader!

Yessir.. This was introduced in the 1.2 final patch. Without it, it was possible for all regiments to arrive at a location on top of each other.

Re: SDK 1.3: What Happened to the Courier Message: Move Unit to... Command?
This is probably a part of the game that I missed; I never used the courier menu to change into one of the fighting formations, only to move the units from here to there. This was introduced in the 1.2 final patch. Without it, it was possible for all regiments to arrive at a location on top of each other.
So, if this was happening, I would have never seen it.

Shucks, that was about the only courier question I could answer, and LP beat me to it.
BTW, I did a bunch work on this to get the Amoveto command working correctly to eliminate the formations step, to no avail, they piled up every time. For me to ever consider a steady diet of courier play, I'd mod or demand less steps to move a unit group. Right now, I think it's about 7...no Thank You.

Yes, Little Powell does a very good job of answering the various questions on the forum. For me to ever consider a steady diet of courier play, I'd mod or demand less steps to move a unit group. Right now, I think it's about 7...no Thank You.
Reb – you really do need to get behind this new system, it slows down the game and brings the atmosphere of the Civil-War into perspective.
I have gotten to the point that I’m not going to play this game without the courier system; I think that it is that good.
I’m not sure why the Supply Wagons were not included within the movements perhaps it had something to do with the fact that they are tied to the Divisional Commander , but that is minor.
I guess that the best part about this game is that it allows the user to configure it too their own personal likes and dislikes.

Ha good point.. I never even thought about the wagons. I think you should at least be able to TC them over courier, maybe give them basic movement orders.I’m not sure why the Supply Wagons were not included within the movements perhaps it had something to do with the fact that they are tied to the Divisional Commander , but that is minor.
Yeah, the courier system is the ultimate realism. Play a courier game, HITS, no map icons, and you'll swear that you can smell the gun powder..

Re: SDK 1.3: What Happened to the Courier Message: Move Unit to... Command?
Yes, a courier movement for the Supply Wagons would be essential on a larger map, hopefully you guys will figure out a way of having a seven x seven map, real soon.Ha good point.. I think that if I were playing with the No Icons that I would edit that file to at least include my own units. I did this for the previous game.Play a courier game, HITS, no map icons, and you'll swear that you can smell the gun powder..
This way the enemy units wouldn’t appear, but I could keep track of where my units were stationed.
