I have a quick question...

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

I have a quick question...

Post by Michael Slaunwhite »

Hi, I'm finally starting to play the full "Gettysburg Scenarios" since the bugs have been worked out for scoring (I am very happy I can start playing them)...now this is what I am doing, and needing to know why some things work, and why others do not.

Okay I am using JSGME (Jone's Soft Generic Mod Enabler) to play the "Gettysburg Scenarios" with mods, and I have been able to play with the Sound mods, Bloodbath, Blood mod, and Musket Fire Mod, etc.

Here is my question. I am trying to get any toolbar mod to work, and for some reason they are not working even though the directory structure, and files are identical. So that is my question, is it possible to have a toolbar edit work when using the generic mod enabler? I have already tried getting "Bugles & Flags v7" to work (also copied, and named 2toolbar to toolbar keeping both files), with no results.

Oh to safe guard me from someone throwing a rock through my window, or cursing me out in private, I do not suggest that anyone else try this at home...leave it to the boneheads like me to try it first.

Anyway I know you folks have allot on your mind.

Later.

Which ones are those? The stock scenarios? Sorry Mike, it's late...
Okay I am using JSGME
Looked at that site briefly. Why is it better than the SOW system?

Hi born2see.

That's okay, I'm tired as well, and it's almost 3:30am here, and I'm still trying to figure this out.

I don't know if I can explain this properly right now. It's not better than Norbs Mod Manager, it's something that you can use in conjunction with Norbs built in mod manager.

I am using this mod manager to play the "Gettysburg Campaigns" with Mods.

I use this program for all of my TC2M mods (as example), and the only way I know without overwriting SOWgb's stock files is too use this Mod Manager (very nice, and very safe) which does a very fine job in managing, and installing the mods I would like to play in the Gettysburg Campaign (which you cannot with the built in mod manager).

I don't recommend using this program really for Scourge of War Gettysburg. I have used it for years on games like TC2M, Sid's Gettysburg game, Freelancer, all of Silent Hunter Series, and many, many more games I can't remember at the moment.

Forgive me if it sounds like I have rambled on...time for bed.

Cheers...

Where is "here". I'm going to guess Nova Scotia based on our time difference and your reference to being "up North where the sun doesn't shine". I'm always curious where people are located, It's one of the things I love about the Internet; the fact we can communicate from all over the world.

I'm in California.

You are one smart guy! :) Yeah, Nova Scotia. I knew you were out west in the sunshine state. I have never been there always wanted to visit though. The closest I ever did get was when I was living in Vancouver. :(

Cheers, and take care.

Cool. Get some sleep. I have some questions about this generic mod program but I'll wait 'till tomorrow when our brains are working better.

I don't know much about that mod enabler but what I can tell it only allows you to mod the files that can be modded without using our mod system (sounds, graphics, etc.). The Toolbar mods use logistics files etc., so they will not show up in the stock scenarios. This is done to prevent cheating to get on the generals list.

One good thing about JSME is that it will do a complete backup of your game and give you a side by side view to compare files. It's good even if you can't do all that you'd like to do. Using both has been an asset and a lifesaver for me. By the way,Florida here, though I'm a Georgia boy born and bred.

I should say, takes a picture of your files as it enables you to take the game back to it's original state.
