Newest of the New

Post by A.S. Johnston »

I downloaded the demo a couple of days ago and have been playing the tutorials there, learning some, losing all of the brigade battles, but - hey! - that's how being a newbie is; right? Tonite, I realized what my problem is: I've set the difficulty of "Historical" ... and of course the AI is kicking my butt from the Shenandoah to the Tennessee! heh. I'll try a couple more later, tomorrow after I buy the authorization code and get that done. Wonderful game; I'd thought about what a "horse-back" POV would be like in saber and musket era and this is even better than my daydreams. Good job!

What tutorials should I complete - successfully I mean - before I apply to play MP either in the grand campaign or head to head? Also, what mods or other software do I need for MP, once I have the full game unlocked and the upgrade to 1.... I forgot the number, the most up-to-date version of the game?

Thanks for any help you can give. Great game, exceeds all my day-dreaming!! :woohoo:

Thank you. I suggest playing them all. Each one teaches a different part of the game, all skills that you will need. But if you are anxious, we have a great group of players and people will help you out. But they will also kick your butt :)

I think 'historical' is the way to play, as it doesn't give any number advantages to the AI, and you have to use courier, which is realistic.

i suppose at a minimum the brigade and the artillery tutorials. The division one is basically controlling multiple brigades and artillery. I really enjoyed the three tutoirals - so id reccommend them. Cavalry doesnt show up for command much - so make that tutorial your lowest priority for now.

Cavalry doesnt show up for command much
They do in eight of the Cavalry field scenarios.. :)

Cavalry is a completely different animal to command so I would definitely recommend mastering the cavalry tutorial as well.

Thanks for the suggestions! I think I will keep the setting on "Historical"; hadn't thought about the advantages of using that level for training. Because using messages, rather than point-and-click for controlling subordinate units, I'd better take the "division commander" course many times to get used to what the orders require in order to be effective ... well, as effective as they're likely to be, eh?

if realism is your thing - you'll have a blast playing with couriers.

Yes, I enjoy realism in wargaming so much that nearly all of my miniatures gaming these days is solo - fewer rules arguments that way, ya know? - so that I can fuss with 'realistic' rules. So much so that my newest campaign is in a Napoleonic War era setting, but in a fictious Europe, using the Kriegsspiel rules instead of miniatures rules for the tactical rules.

Wow, I'm really looking forward to playing Gettysburg in MP! Are there any other titles in development ... didn't notice any, but some days I'm older than on other days, if ya know what I mean.

The current focus of the NSD team is still on getting this title "completed" as i understand it Albert, however wether that is with more patches or add ons im not sure. The fact is that as it stands its more than enough to keep you busy and your appetite wet particularly with the recent additions of new maps with the last patch. The GCM multiplayer community is getting stronger and stronger all the time at the moment and i think youll soon get sucked into that vortex of battle and before you know it,Voila, :woohoo: there just isnt enough time in any given day...
Get on in there on teamspeak with the Generals and enjoy it Albert, if you fire off a courier now to the front with any luck the boys will have an eye out for your colours approaching and have you settled in within no time!
Good luck and Enjoy!
