I keep wondering if the NSD team should continue enhancing SOW Gettysburg, or if it will shortly be time for them to start developing a new stand-alone, pay to own, project 2.0. I feel that GSOW is a fantastic game, that despite its lack of "eye candy" (compared to other offerings) is remarkably well ahead of any other game in the market today, even with the little historical quibbles we continue to have.
How far is NSD from starting an entirely new project, possibly on a new game engine (or keeping the old, would be fine with me) and developing the next SOW game from the ground up? Given experiences, how long would it take to get something like that as far as beta?
I'm ready to see a "final" GSOW patch and start reading updates about what's next!
What are your opinions?

I agree with Neal all the way. It would be great to have let's say a series of battles in a package and all the mods as well. HPS Simulations has like a few battles on each cd they put out. I bet Norb can do the same. To me this would be excellent. I would pay for each cd gladly knowing the quality of work Norb and team does.

Surely someone's considering a Father General Mod.

Hi.
Now if Norb starts too work on another project which is totally separate from SOWgb would that mean when the new standalone project has been completed would Norb fulfill his promise too disable the need to activate/deactivate Scourge of War - Gettysburg via internet connection?
Just wondering....

Re: The Next SOW Project
I'd have to say that there is still much work to be done with SoWGB. With all of the thoughts/ideas/wishes/fixes/etc. being worked on for the features patch, that will inevitably be the focus of the team as a whole for the forseeable future. Offhand, I'd reckon the entire Norbsoftdev team wants to be completely satisfied (or as nearly as possible) that this game is as complete as it can be before they are ready to move on, and even then, I reckon they just might need a break in between. Besides, while 50-100 of us buying the game (and future installments - yes, I know I'm lowballing, but I can only really count MP players at this point) is nice, I'm sure the team will want to see how well the game does flying off store shelves before they decide what to invest in the next title(s).
This is all off the top of my head and I could well be way off, but that just seems to be the feel of things to me.
Neal you can still come back and get more of your money's worth out of MP, at the very least. Then if you feel properly ready to move on, then maybe ask again. With Garnier's setup and the new Shenandoah Campaign to get under way shortly, there is still plenty left in the tank for SoWGB.

For you MMG vets out there, I'm still have my hat hung on Shiloh.
However, what I'd really like to see is a campaign mode a al HPS Simulations. I'd volunteer to help write write the maps of which there'd be numerous.

Sorry. I suffer from a serious case of typosis. Don't worry, it's not contagious
