Obviously this is not something I expect support for, but what is your opinion, are there many places where modders/dev's could edit things, make the game easier on FPS?
1. Vegetation for instance, is it possible to make a toned down version? It's the biggest FPS killer for people with low end machines like me. Whenever i use the 'T' key, it improves things alot.
2. Is it possible (or has it already been implemented?) for some sort of distance dependent unit/object quality setting? As in, far away objects/trees are crap, close up ones are great.
3. Sand box scenarios always play alot better than gettysburg scenarios, obviously due to the fact that there isn't other units around. Is there something that could be implemented there?
I was playing scenario 4 today, as Rodes, at the bottom of the hill where the batteries are grouped at the start, watching my troops attack the union lines. Epic stuff, really. I get carried away some times and just watch (thats my excuse anyway, ended on -600, played on historical). But when I started tweaking visibility distance for trees and objects, the scene was transformed. There were trees all along the stone wall, units reinforcing in the distance... It looked amazing. Unfortunately my FPS dropped to 8, so the game was effectively ruined. Only problem was, once I reset the visibility distances to their previous settings, all the extra detail dissappeared.
I have an 8800GTX, an E6600 2.4Ghz processor, 4Gb Ram and Windows 7. Custom built PC around 4 years old in March.
Increase FPS
Re: Increase FPS
In the patch, there is an upgrade for running with lots of terrain vegitation. It really helps when there is a lot. I went through and put a lot of work in here and in some cases I've increased my fps by 10-30, not all situations, but many.
Basically I wrote code myself to decide what to draw. I found that the 3D engine we use did a poor job and was drawing way too much. So with this new code, very little that is not visible is drawn and therefore it runs faster. Also helps with large amounts of units. It's still not where I would like to be, but it's better.

Re: Increase FPS
Excellent News, Norb – the additional FPS will be a very welcomed indeed, but I’m really waiting on the new AI maneuvers!
Thanks, for the update!

The only true logic is that, there is no true logic!
