Sprite Ratio, I just played a game with 1:1 ratio.
Hi.
I am tad bewildered about what the problem is about playing a game with the sprite ratio being 1:1 (outside the fps slow down it creates). I just finished playing a game with 1:1, and I didn't come across any problems so I must be not understanding something.
See the screenshot below.
later!

If the units are standing still, not marching or fighting, you will probably not have a drop in the frames-per-second!
Post some pictures with the units during a road-movement, or fighting, showing the FPS that you are getting!
Add this line to your SOWGB Configuration file – so that it will display the FPS in the screen-shot!

Alright, I'll do that now, and get back to you shortly. If the units are standing still, not marching or fighting, you will probably not have a drop in the frames-per-second!

Hi. Here are the pictures you requested.
Battle: Attack, Corp's vs Corp's
My FPS didn't drop below 7, and the game still played very smooth. Now to play a game army vs army to see what type of hit I get on fps. I would suspect the game will be reduced to a whopping 1 fps at this level.
Thats it.

Re: Sprite Ratio, I just played a game with 1:1 ratio. UPDATE!
Hi.
Here is the 1:1 ratio if you are interested. Just unzip it into your mods directory.
I still can't understand why people are even interested in this.
This is an update to the 1:10 sprite ratio edit made by Little Powell, which has Artillery added.
The thanks goes to Little Powell. All I did was change the values in the .ini files.
So the edit now places inf=1, cav=1, and art=1 to 1:1 sprite ratio. Expect a heavy fps hit if you wish to play army vs army.

Re: Sprite Ratio, I just played a game with 1:1 ratio.
Oh, if only it was that simple. For accurate 1:1 scale, the present OOB_SB files have to be rewritten, all officers and ranks moved up one level, brigade to division, etc., and new regimental commanders must be researched and added to the former brigade level. Also, observe from the 'Drills' file that units can only have a maximum of 123 sprites per.
It's going to take more effort and much more time if you want this accurate, and you're on the right path. I'm presently working on SR1 mods for the next patch, scenarios and sandbox play, and incorporating SR1 play takes time, but it's worth it...REALISTIC ACTION PLUS

Hey, Thanks for taking the time to post the Screen-Shots!Hi. Here are the pictures you requested.
Battle: Attack, Corp's vs Corp's
My FPS didn't drop below 7, and the game still played very smooth. Now to play a game army vs army to see what type of hit I get on fps.
This Game , is very different from most games that will run on a computer, meaning that you will probably never get 40+ frames-per-second while playing with maxed out detail.
If you can get anything above 13 fps – you will probably not notice any type of slowdown while playing!
Now, if the fps – drop below 10 – I notice severe camera jerking, and the units sort of move in a slower-type movement, and this is from someone that plays the game with extremely slow movements .
You could probably reduce each Army that you are playing with by one brigade, which should reduce the LOS – and your FPS would probably stay above 11 fps .
It is sort of amazing how slightly reducing the OOB, helps the game, but sometimes, just a brigade makes the game slightly un-playable.
BTW – your screen-shots look very crisp and clear!

I figured it couldn't be that easy

here is another picture of army vs army. I don't know if arty is classified as inf, but I added a line called art=1 (for artillery) to the .ini. Anyway what a real fps hit.

I did find that playing at 7fps was not all that bad, very manageable, and not jerky. While I was playing the game I sped the timescale up to get the engagement started, and that went smooth as well, no hiccups.
I did have another game with the ratio at 1:50, now that really sped up the frame rates, and the battle didn't last too long

I didn't research accurate historical names, etc, for this, but this was my stab at making something like this a while back: http://www.norbsoftdev.com/index.php?op ... Itemid=124
It was a shot at shifting the entire OOB structure down a level and compensating for the sprite ratio by increasing the number of men in a given unit.
