Generals cannot be captured. They are usually killed by riding into enemy lines or by being very close to a melee. Be careful, you can be killed the same way.
So if I tell a Division commander to go somewhere and then choose "line" as formation, will all regiments in the end automatically line up infront of their corresponding superiors?
Yes. All your subordinate commanders follow the chain of command. If you order your division commander into line formation, he will order his brigade commanders into line formation and the brigade commanders will order his regiments into line formation.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

Yes, it works as you say. However, in multiplayer anyway, you should never ever give the formation commands to your infantry commanders (brig, div and corps). The only exception being that you may want to use the column formation command just to start the whole force moving somewhere.

For instance if you tell a brigade commander to use the line formation, the men will form line much earlier than they should, plus you won't have good control over where they go. Generally you should TC the regiments individually so you can control what they do. You never want to be in line unless you are shooting or were shooting and only need to advance a little. Otherwise, regiments should be in column. Moving in line is slower, and gives them more fatigue.

Because we generally have a lot of players in the MP games, you'll only be commanding 5-10 regiments, so it isn't too much to give them individual orders.

...the community of this game seems rather small.
Small, but very devoted and active. Most of us have been waiting for an accurate 19th century real-time battle simulator for ages.
Sorry. I suffer from a serious case of typosis. Don't worry, it's not contagious :)

Okay I do have encountered another problem right now.

I have already moved on to historic difficulty settings so it's all about couriers now, which is alot more fun btw :P

Only problem for me is that I usually play Sandbox Battles with Corps vs. Corps where I take the role of a division commander. Now if I play on historic difficulty settings, I never know where I'm supposed to move if the Corps commander gives the order to "move to the indicated position".

Yeah problem is I have no clue where that indiciated position is supposed to be, until I see the actual marker on the battlefield. Hard to know where I'm supposed to take position when I can't see a marker on the map.

How do you guys solve that problem?

The ordered destination should show up on the mini-map.
