Turn off AVG

Earlier in this thread someone in authority said you need to turn off AVG to activate.

I bought the disk version with manual today. I have dialup.

Now when I turn off AVG to you mean turn off the "resident shield" or do you mean get into "task manager"
and turn off the exe files of which AVG has many. You can't just turn off all of AVG with a couple of clicks. Malware Bytes yes, AVG protects itself like many anti virus programs do now.

You may not have to turn it off to activate. Also, if you don't mind waiting a little, you can manually activate and then there is no need. But I would try to auto-activate first and see how it goes before you go messing around with your virus protection.

Possibly you are famliar with Second Manassas (Paradox). I shut off the AVG Resident Shield and everything else in the Windows tray then loaded the program. It has the same AI but I don't know about your copy protection.

In any case the issue with AVG discussed on their site never occured. Since the disk in the drive is the copy protect, with AVG on the disk wasn't being recognized. I had no such problem.

That's why I asked about what you ment by turning AGV off.

AVG has gotten as bad as Norton. To get it off you need a service to save the data and wipe the disk.

I use AVG, the free version, and have had no problems with AVG and the game running at the same time. This includes single and multi-play. The only issue you may find, is when you enter the serial number and and activate it online. In that case, AVG may prevent you from doing that. If that does occur, you can either use msconfig to shut down AVG while you are activating, or you can use the manual activation via email. That takes a a little longer, but you won't have to do anything with AVG.

Just so you know, the cd does not have to be in the drive to run the game. The cd is just used to install the game on the computer. You can then put it away. You will only need it again if you have to re-install the game for some reason.

Hmmm? I wonder if the problem is with the paid version of AVG? I think paid AVG with it's resident sheild and on-line shield is different from free AVG in that way.

I found someone who talked about "End it all" But it's really little different from Task Manager. Either way AVG has a parcel of "exe" files that are running.

Sorry about my not-so-elucidating comment above. Norb was a creator of Take Command: Second Manassas, so the situation struck me as funny.



Anyhow, have you tried running it as the administrator? Sometimes that helps you bypass some of the firewall features. You might have to manually set the firewall perimeters to allow the program, but that sounds a bit extreme.
