I authored the following in The Bullet is Not Molded ..... thread.
“Wilkeson’s arty should have been able to fire over the heads of Ames and von Gilsa at the fence line. However, I advanced Wilkeson - as soon as the target range read 200 yards, the range reading immediately jumped back to about 220 yards!”
Now I have discovered this also happens in Three Times is Not a Charm. When DH Hill arrived at Mummasburg road, I placed his arty on a hilltop with infantry halfway towards the bottom engaged at close range with John Robinson’s Federals. When my unlimbered advancing arty hit the 200-yard mark (still elevated above the infantry) the target range indicators automatically jumped back to over 220 yards. What is the probable explanation?
1. This is the way the game is programmed to force the arty not to fire canister over the heads of infantry because it is historically inaccurate.
2. The elevation heights are actually not as high as they look (hard to believe with Barlow’s Knob). This is the way the game is programmed to not blast the heads off friendly units.
3. This is a bug.
Along certain sections of the railroad cut in TC2M, I was able to fire canister over the heads of Confederate infantry positioned a few yards in front.
Firing Cannister Over Heads of Friendlies Not Permitted
Re: Firing Cannister Over Heads of Friendlies Not Permitted
You can't fire cannister over heads.
